Police in Ogun state say they have identified the gunman who shot dead the mate of a petrol tanker driver at a car wash at Leme in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The police say they have launched a manhunt for the killer who escaped from the scene of the murder in an unmarked car.

Spokesman of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, will not disclose the identity of the killer gunman, who witnesses say wore camoflague short.

Oyeyemi said forensic investigation will be conducted on the body of the driver mate which had been taken to the morgue of a hospital in abeokuta.

The state police commissioner, Ahmed Ilyasu, had visited the car wash located along the Sam Ewang estate road on Saturday morning.


Meanwhile, the car wash where the incident occured is now deserted.

The deceased identified as Rasaq, and popularly known as Aro, was a mate of the driver of a NIPCO truck marked TTD-456-XA.


His colleague, Sikiru Olalekan, who was at the scene of the incident, said the driver mate was shot dead by a man who wore a camouflage short. Olalekan explained they were at the car wash to wash their truck, when they met the gunman who also came to wash an unmarked Sienna car.


According to him, the gunman told the decased to move the truck out of the car wash depot, so that he could drive his car already washed out of the depot.

He said that an argument ensued when the gunman threatened them with gun when he was told that the available space is enough for drive out.


Olalekan recalled that when they decided to move the truck, the gunman seized the door of the truck, shot the motor boy dead, and drove away in his unmarked car before they could raise any alarm.
