Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua MBE born 15 October 1989 is the current unified world heavyweight champion. He on Saturday night in front of 90,000 people at Wembly won Wladimir Klitschko wining him 15 million pounds.

Anthony has an 18 months old son Joseph who
was babysit-ted by his Nigerian mother Yeta Odunsanya. He quit school at age 16 and went into boxing at 18 and currently the CEO of his own company, brand ambassador for Jaguar Land Rover who last week gave him a 150,000 pound Range Rover Sv Autobiography.

Speaking with the UK Sun, Jeremiah Okorodudu a former boxing champion recalls that nine years ago, Joshua was rejected to represent Nigeria at the 2008 Olympic Games by the Nigerian boxing officials.

He said that Joshua wanted to connect with his roots and compete ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympics qualifiers, but was denied the chance so he went back to England and represented Great Britain for whom he won gold in 2012.

Joshua wanted to do Nigeria a favor because of the love he has for his mother.

A Nigerian coach Adegboyega Adeniji-Adele confirmed that Joshua was at the Nigerian camp.
Obisia Nwakpa who was the chief coach of the boxing team in 2008 said
'we made the right call then, because he wasn't good enough and we picked someone who was much better'.

Sadly, none of the boxers who represented Nigeria in the 2008 Olympics has performed better than Joshua since then.

Nigeria qualified four boxers for the 2008 Olympic boxing tournament; Rasheed Lawal (lightweight), Olanrewaju Durodola (heavyweight), Onorede Ohwarieme (superweight) who all did not advance to the quarter finals and dauda Izobo (lightweight) who didn't get to the Round of 16.

This begs the question: is the Nigerian system a fair judge of character and talent?

Now Nigeria and her citizens are celebrating his victory on every media and associating themselves with him.

Truth be told, Joshua is a British citizen whose mother is Nigerian. Even the Nigerian culture identifies a child with his fathers heritage and not his or her mothers.

He is not a Nigerian! but a Briton.

We should celebrate his hard work and a job well done and not for his ties to the Nigerian environment that didn't believe in him or give him a chance to thrive.
