Yesterday, a colleague who owns a mini supermarket went to deposit some funds in a bank here in Lagos but some of the Note were rejected by the bank for being torn... He inquired why shouldn't a bank which is supposed to serve as a central collection point for this notes to be returned to CBN which in turns prints newer equivalent. But the bank staffs said, they are now being charged a percentage by CBN for MUTILATED Notes hence they don't accept it anymore........

So now how do we change bad notes, since banks and Petrol station will stop collecting it now....I wonder what a country this is...

it happened to me 2wks ago@fcmb,they said cbn now charges a certain amount for those mutilated notes,i was angry ever since then i stop depositing into my account.

One woman withdrew from ATM POS and there's a mutilated N1000 note among d money, she quickly take it back to d bank to make payment (same bank she made d previous transaction) but they rejected d money. D woman has to tear d note in anger

It is the duty of the cbn to print new notes after 5 years, blame the commercial banks, Nigeria is the only country in the world where you see mint notes on the streets sold by hawkers and get mutilated notes from our so called bankers.

Nigeria has the worst bankers there is no professionalism or ethics they just wear clean suits but exhibit dirty business practice.

This is the no 10th evidence of a zoo. Infact the real animals in real zoo will one day revolt for insulting them because animals are more organized that nigeria

Hahaha! So true. Last week Friday, that's how I went to withdraw ordinary 2k o, and 1k was torn. Chai! I wan cry. The people behind me didn't understand why I stayed infront of the the ATM a while longer than normal. Friday night o! Way public holiday dey on Monday. I just kept the money in a separate place, and on Tuesday, I went to pay the money back into their account. The woman at the counter looked at the money funny, and I was just waiting for her to complain before giving her some serious verbal assault.

One piece of mutilated N500 note was among the N10,000 I collected from ECOBANK ATM on Osolo way on May day. I cannot spend it because it is being rejected everywhere. It is a BIG SHAME that the Banks are now loading their ATMs with Mutilated notes.

The problem with our currency notes is because of the low quality materials used in the production of the currencies. Because of the fraudulent nature of those in a position to print these notes, they cut corners by quoting high costs for the production while they use low quality materials in producing them.

These deals are been perpetrated by those of the Apex Bank and the minting and printing. A case file is that of the last One Hundred naira note that was produced with low quality material.

I cannot understand why the same system that produced them, want to reject their products of which they made them so.

The CBN must be held accountable and this nonsense must stop.

Advise your friend to go to CBN office in his State and have the torn notes changed.

That is also wrong. The money will be charged to the cashiers account. Don't do that.

Don't blame the commercial banks, but saudier blame CBN. Banks are been charged 5% to change mutilated notes. For example, to change N100m mutilated notes the bank will cough out additional N5m.

They're not detectives, they're cashiers. Don't put them through anymore stress than their barely above minimum wage salary can cover. Do the right thing.

dey should do the right thing too... Someone gives you change, do u just collect it like that or u scan through the money to see if its damaged? Be wise..

Arrant nonsense, go to ATM all you get is torn smelly notes while they sell New notes to party goers. Our bank managers are heartless, banks must collect mutilated note becos thats what they pay to customers. It is gabbage out gabbage In, you give to us rubbish, we it back to you.

If commercial banks who are supposed to be an intermediary between The Apex Bank and the public starts rejecting mutilated currencies, with an excuse that the Apex is charging them money for those currencies, then the banks should take the Central Bank to court.

The Apex bank should now explain to Nigerians their job. Are they just out to sell dollars and pounds making their individual profits from the illegal foreign currency deals they perpetrate in connivance with the Abokis.

The central bank MUST not charge any money from commercial banks for mutilated currencies as it is their duty to remove and replace those currencies that has gone bad in circulation.

Or, is it because some of the directors of the CBN and commercial staff that got involved in fraudulent practices of stealing those mutilated currencies in the past in which the deal was blown and some of them in court facing jail term when convicted has made them to start charging money on such?

This nonsense must stop and if actually the CBN governor is aware of this development and nothing is done, it will serve him right to throw in the towel.

It's just so unfortunate that CBN is out to make profit.

They'll charge you for depositing cash with them

They'll also charge you for withdrawing same cash from them

CBN counting machine will shred most of the mutilated notes and the bank will be charged for cash shortage which ultimately will be borne by the cashier that received and stamped the cash.

This is where the part of the profit they declare annually emanates from.
