I was in a bus the other day,
on my way to town, like any
other Friday, there was
traffic. The bus was loud as
usual, then this car in front of
uscided to move to the next
lane to take a turn and the
commotion started. The bus
driver, the conductor and the
men in the bus all joined in
the series of demeaning
comments targeted at the
other driver. With all that
noise and excitement, I just
had to take a look and see
who it was that had caused
so much noise, it was a
woman.
She seemed professional,
dressed for the office and
minding her business, I can
only assume she was going to
work. The insults were taken
to a whole other level when
they called her out; her family
and her assumed children.
Like seriously, she was just
driving to work.
So here is what really bugged
me.

A lot of men out there claim
they love their women, some
even say they love all women,
yet you call out one woman
who has said nothing to you
nor done anything to you
except drive.
You claim you love your
woman yet you mark her
body with disgraceful signs of
hate, making her give excuses
because she is ashamed of
the truth.
You claim she means the
world to you yet you treat her
like a slave, worthless and
poor.

You claim to love her yet you
belittle her for simply trying
to be your woman, you make
her cry and ruin her mascara
for something so simple.
So, to all the men, and young
boys, who sit around mocking
and insulting that woman or
girl who rejected you, or
didn’t dress how you would
have wished her to dress, for
choosing to not be your
personal punching bag or
your Barbie doll, for being
independent, for the many
reasons that make you think
you can simply treat a woman
like garbage, please
remember, you came from a
woman.

A woman who carried you for
months and lived through the
journey that is pregnancy, a
woman who endured the
excruciating pain of labor just
so you take your first breath
and live to say those foul
words, a woman whose
breasts you fed on and
probably ruined, a woman
who stayed up all night
because you had a fever, a
woman who woke up simply
because you wanted to play,
a woman who listened even
when she knew nothing about
what you were talking about,
a woman who is your mother.
She is the woman who
birthed you and yet you have
the audacity to call someone’s
mother, sister, and daughter
out of her name and drag her
name down the street,
because of what??
Is it pride??
Ego??
Irrational fear of
emasculation??
I am curious.
What exactly prompts you to
just feel like that?
For the several boys and
some men who actively go on
social media to shame
women because of periods
and how our bodies work,
uuhhmm excuse me, are you
a woman? Do you know what
it feels like to go through it?
Have you ever experienced it?
Please, grab a human biology
book and read about it, it will
do you a great deal, and if
not, please, keep your mouth
shut about things you do not
understand.

We are people too you know,
if we could turn the tables
over and treat you like
garbage too, would that make
you happier?
Embarrass you, insult you,
threaten you, beat you,
shame you, defame you,
would it be better?
I am really curious.
