*Topic:* A CALL TO MODESTY
*Read:* 1 TIMOTHY 2:9-10

*MEMORISE:* _In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing._ *(1 Timothy 2:9).*

*EXPOSITION*
This Bible passage is often misunderstood and dismissed as old-fashioned. It is mocked as a silly attack on feminine beauty. But if this Bible passage is so out of date and unhelpful, why do experts give similar tips on dressing corporately for success when having job interviews? Modesty is the quality of behaving and dressing in ways that aren't sexually and otherwise provocative.

In God's eyes, character matters more than clothing. Whether male or female, you are addressed the way you dress and comport yourself *(cf. 1 Samuel16:7)*. Yes, the Bible doesn't give a detailed dress code, yet, it does call for modesty in our appearance. This message is needed today, even more than when it was first written.

Yes, relationship with Christ is more important than clothing choices, yet, dressing send signals about us and our relationship with the Lord. When the Bible calls for modest clothing, it says the clothing should be appropriate for those who profess to worship God. What sort of clothing do you wear? What impact does your appearance have on others? When people look at you, does your clothing and appearance provoke lust in them? You claim that you didn't invite them to look at you, but you dress to kill. You will be held responsible for as many as fall into lust by your killer dressing (nudity) *(cf. Matthew 18:7)*.

In these days of sexual permissiveness and abuse, Christians should act and dress differently from the corrupt society that casts aside and ridicules the Holy Spirits desire for modesty and purity *(Romans 12:2)*.

*PRAYER POINTS:*
*1.* Oh Lord, help me not to be swept away by ungodly civilisation.
*2.* Lord, give our women the ear to hear and the heart to obey Your desire for modesty.
*3.* Holy Spirit, visit Christian leaders that are misleading people regarding Your stand on modest dressing, for positive change.
