Report just reaching us states that Lanre Gentry, Husband of Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has been granted bail. He was remainded in Kirikiri prisons until he was arrained at the Ikeja Magistrate Court on 3 counts charge before he was granted bail in the tune of N500,000 and 2 sureties who must reside in Lagos and own landed properties. He will not pay this 500k. He will only enter a bond, a kind of an undertaking that he will be forced by the court to pay if he jumps bail, ie if he runs away or is ot seen the day court needs him for trial.

So those other sureties may also be asked to pay thay sum if Gentry runs away cos by acting as sureties they are promising the court that he will not run away. Is that clear.

At times too a person may be granted bail on self recognisance. Imagine if Jonathan is arraigned for stealing of a phone, he is likely to be granted bail on self recognisance given his status as a former president.

Again sb may be asked to deposit money to the court before he will be granted bail.
