INEC officials said “they can't register because they were already over 18 years old at the point of the last registration and they did not register”.
Elombah.com has just received this exposee by a concerned citizen of Nigeria, Maazi Tochukwu Ezeoke who exposed an uncanny ploy by the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] to disfranchise South-easterners from registering and voting come 2019 General Elections.
Read:
On the 27th of April, 2016, the day the voter registration commenced, I went to the Aguata LGA registration unit (PU 04/01/09/005).
The unit is at a remote location in Ekwuluobia, less than a kilometre from the local government headquarters (near an oil mill).
As I arrived the centre, I saw a lot of young people hanging around and I asked if they were not registering.
I was informed that INEC officials said: “they can't register because they were already over 18 years old at the point of the last registration and they did not register”.
They can only register if they can prove that they weren’t around in the last registration exercise by providing a copy of their international passport. I found the demand strange. More strange was that this is the only option.
I requested to see the Oga, I was told he went out. I waited! He came back after about an hour plus, and he arrogantly addressed the youth to go home and get their international passport (with visa stamps) as a proof if they want to register.
I queried him, he insisted that this was order from above. Funny enough, I was following INEC twitter handle and pulled up the criteria for him to see.
We both reviewed and he still insisted that they must produce their international passports, he even accused them of registering before and that they want to register again.
I argued that he can’t do that; it is left for the system to flag up double registration since 10 finger thumbprint is needed to register. My argument made no sense to the INEC officials.
On my own registration as a first timer since the introduction of PVC, they insisted that I must provide my international passport.
I offered a soft copy which I have on my phone, it was rejected. He insisted that I MUST print it out and attach it to the registration form.
Because I was determined to be part of those that will correct the mistake we have as a government come 2019, I had to drive to a business centre at Eke-Ekwulobia beside TRACAS office and had my international passport printed out from the soft copy.
Once that was done, I went back and got registered. The whole process took me almost 4hours.
If the INEC officials acting on “order from above” are requesting for a copy of international passport before registering any new registrant above 20 years old, would it be safe to say that they are targeting a section of the country?

How does international passport (bio page) prove that I was not in Nigeria at the point of previous registrations?

Those without international passports are disfranchised, why?

Are they demanding same in the Northern & Western part of Nigeria?

Is this bottleneck not working against us?
My conclusion: we are still infants in this election game. Those up north are ahead of Ndigbo".
PS: Attached photo collage is my evidence
Top left: My voters card indicating the unit, date & time.
Top right: INEC infographics on who is eligible to register.
Bottom left: Youths over 20 years of age being asked to go and get their passports.
Bottom right: INEC official playing on their iPad instead of registering candidates.

INEC DEMANDS INTERNATIONAL PASSPORT IN ANAMBRA LGA BEFORE REGISTRATION

Below is a complaint by a Nigerian who went to register in the ongoing voter registration in Aguata, Anambra State..

IDK why they are wasting their time trying to suppress Igbo vote.

Igbos already said they aren't interested in partaking in Nigerian presidential vote. SE should focus on voting for their governors, chairman's, etc. Whoever wins the shith0le presidential seat shouldn't even be your concern.

Why waste your time voting when you already know they will rig themselves in.

Hmmm, there are things we do and say sometimes that I really don't like, Mazi Tochukwu's complains and worries are okay but trying to compare it with the north and south west is where I have problems. So if the same is applicable in north and S.W then it becomes legal and okay?

As for INEC, so just to get voters card I'll have to go through this process? What's the essence of doing voters card if they don't even have database of previously registered citizens. If you feel those youths have registered b4 why not go through your database and reprint the cards for them instead of this silly international passports thingy.
