Every male has two testicles growing in his scrotum. In addition to testicles, there are two epididymis growing in the scrotum as well. Epididymis is a pair of long thin flat tubes. Epididymis and testicle meet in the lower part of spermatic cord. It’s responsible for storing and carrying sperm. So the lesion of epididymis may lead to many male problems including male infertility. Epididymitis is one of the common disease that related with epididymis.

This disease is commonly among young male adults. When the immunity of body is weak, pathogenic bacterium, such as staphylococcus, streptococcus, escherichia coli and so on, will invade into spermaduct and go through spermaduct into epididymis. Then epididymitis is caused. Therefore, epididymitis often happens after urethritis, prostatitis, seminal vesicle inflammation. Most patients with epididymitis have scleroma either at the head or tail of epididymis and scleroma in the tail part is most in common.

In clinic cases, epididymitis is usually classified into acute epididymitis and chronic epididymitis.

1. Symptoms of Acute Epididymitis
The symptoms of acute epididymitis are often obvious and serious. The common symptoms include sudden occurrence of high fever, increase of white blood cell, swelling pain and bearing-down pain in the affected side of scrotum, referred pain in the lower abdomen and groin pain when standing or walking, testicular pain and tenderness.

2. Symptoms of Chronic Epididymitis
Chronic epididymitis is more common compared with acute epididymitis. Some cases of chronic epididymitis are resulted from incomplete treatment of acute epididymitis. But most patients with chronic epididymitis do not have an obvious acute period. The inflammation occurs after chronic prostatitis or prostate damage in most cases. Patients with chronic epididymitis often feel dull pain or swelling in the affected side of scrotum. The pain usually spreads to the lower abdomen and groin of the same side. Secondary hydrocele of tunica vaginalis may occur along with chronic epididymitis. Epididymis is found to be enlarged and hardened in some degree in medical tests, along with sight pressing pain.
