INTROVERTED? 6 WAYS TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN A WORLD OF EXTROVERTS

Making a mark for yourself in the workplace and building a successful career isn’t an easy task for any of us, but for an introvert, it can feel like climbing a mountain, as they are required to leave their comfort zone to get noticed in a world full of extroverts.

Achieving a successful career can often be held accountable to building an effective personal brand and forming connections with influential individuals in the industry, however for someone who is more comfortable spending time alone this can prove tough. Are you an introvert? Here are 6 career tips that can help you progress:

Smile:

It's one thing to be the quiet person at an event, or even to be off in the corner answering browsing on your phone. It's another to look uncomfortable or frown so much that you seem angry. Present yourself outwardly as being open and eager to meeting new people, even if you feel differently inside.

Smiling can be the secret super power of introverts. Smiling will help other people feel more at ease and comfortable around you, even if they don't interact with you much. So if you're introverted and perhaps a little hard to get to know, people won't take it negatively because you communicate positively with your smile.

Find a job that suits your personality:

To be honest, there are some jobs that just aren't well suited for all personality types. Instead of struggling to make your personality work with your job, find a career where your introversion is actually an asset.

Jobs that require attention to detail, great listening skills, and the ability to work independently are all ideal choices. Careers that demand a lot of networking, cold calling or public speaking may not be appropriate for your personality. But recognizing the strengths and abilities that come with being an introvert can actually give you the upper hand in many personal and professional situations.

Use your writing skills:

Use this to your advantage. Write down your ideas before meetings or get-togethers. For professional situations, bring along notes or an outline of all the issues or topics you want to see addressed.

Step outside your comfort zone:

There will be times when you'll be in a room surrounded by extroverts. When you find yourself in these situations, it's important not to give in to your natural tendencies to just let everyone else do all the talking.Forcing yourself to practice your public speaking and informal conversation skills can benefit you in all areas of your life. It gives you the confidence needed to step outside your comfort zone when the need arises.

When being an introvert hinders you, you have to go out of your comfort zone and push yourself to become better. Although it may seem difficult, introverts can seamlessly weave themselves into an organization and survive even the most social of workforces. Although it may seem difficult, introverts can seamlessly blend into an organization and adapt to even the most social of work environment.

Focus on your strengths:

While being an introvert in a world full of extroverts can certainly feel like a disadvantage at times, it's all a matter of playing to your strengths. As an introvert, you're likely to absorb information quickly, be observant when it comes to group dynamics, and see things that others may miss. Use these skills to your advantage, whenever possible.

Make time for yourself:

As an introvert, you need time to recharge. But finding that time at work is not always easy. Take advantage of lunch time or breaks to be quiet. Take books to work, draw, read or craft, or dive into what gives you energy. If you don’t have personal space, take a walk. Grab opportunities wherever you can find them.
