Bag of money keh...funny thing is most of these men don't even have enough money to take care of himself and his wife, they just wanna marry younger ladies to enjoy her body nothing else... years later you will be seeing a wrinkled old man and a resentful young woman as his wife.

There is this misconception that Northern women are the ones that have their rights violated the most in this country. It is false. The truth is that igbo culture has no respect for the feminine gender. It is only in igboland that women are not permitted to inherit their fathers property. It is only in igboland that a widow is shaved and then forced to drink the water that had been used to wash the dead body of her late husband

Don't say what you don't know. Nobody is made to drink anything in igbo land.
As for the part where females are not permitted to share their father's property is actually none of your business because the females are not complaining. Why taking panadol on top another man's headache.

At 19 you are an adult. I had suitors at 16 immediately i gained admission but of course,i turned them down to face my studies squarely.
The only problem is that she was forced into it but at 19,a lady is not too young to make decisions provided she is empowered academically and otherwise.

A 9yr old is a minor, a child who's reproductive organ is in it's infancy stage. A Js 1 child who can't make decisions for herself forced to sleep with a man old enough to be her great grand father.

A 19yr lady is an Adult old enough to make decisions and take care of herself. A 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate under the right circumstances.

I thought with her experience she would have learnt that being happy in a marriage plays an important role in the emotional welfare of the children.

Being unhappy in a union has a negative psychologically impact on everyone involved - husband, wife and kids

Same goes for breakup.

This is much better, instead of being unduly tied to one person, democratically serve it to all without discrimination

A look at your name will also show that you have no atom of respect for the female gender.

Igbos have no culture of disrespecting and violating women. In Pre colonial Igbo culture, maltreatment of women is akin to disrespecting the Greatest female goddess of the earth popularly known as Ala.
Any man found maltreating a woman is disgraced in public and sanctioned by the authorities.
In Igboland, there is a culture of ''Sitting on a man'', where a man accused of violating a woman is publicly beaten and disgraced by the female folks.
Aggreably, igbos like some West African cultures don't bequeath lands and houses to female folks.
It is never out of oppression. There are certain reasons for that. It is believed that she has to build her home with her husband and that will make her work hard with him as against taking her Father's properties to man. In the past, a man that takes properties from his Father-in law's house is called a lazy man. In Igbo culture,we believe that a wife's wellbeing is a direct reflection of her husband's purse and wealth. That is why you would see a man with a rickety car but see his wife in tear rubber jeep.
So which man will want to take properties instead of working for his own?
When a woman decides to get married, her Father and Mother buy household properties to send her forth on her marriage but she is expected to aquire her own properties in her husband's house.
Not giving properties to female children is a way of encouraging them to stick to their husbands and build their homes.
In a case of failed marriage, the woman comes home and the Father build a house for her and give a piece of land.

Additionally,a man also has to leave properties for his sons to aid them when they decide to have families of their own.
However, rich men are known to bequeath some properties to their female kids.
I walk around my community and i see old houses which relatives have pointed out that they belong to aunties built/given to them by their fathers.
Don't attack a culture when you don't understand how it operates.

Tell that to your fellow Tribal bigot because they will understand you more. If you think sharing property is a way of respecting women then something is definitely wrong with you.

what's wrong with people? 19 is an adult for Christ sake. If not for situation of things here many 16year olds are treated as adult. No wonder many of 30+ never see themselves as adult. What's a crime is 9, 12 n 13year olds getting married. Concerning forcing her na dem sabi. Many 20+ n 30+ are even forced into marry let alone.
