PDP Rakes In N2b For Anambra Poll

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday night raised close to N2 billion for the Anambra State chapter of the party to pay for the campaign expenses of its candidate in the February 6 governorship election in the state, Chukwuma Soludo.

The fund raising dinner, held at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, saw the Chief Launcher, Arthur Eze, making an individual donation of N250 million.

PDP Governors Forum, however, overshadowed his donation as it was gathered from a source that N1.5 billion was their total contribution to the war chest.

Vice President and Chairman of PDP’s Anambra State Governorship Campaign Committee, Goodluck Jonathan, noted that the fund raising was essential as “Anambra PDP must have sufficient funds to execute the forthcoming election”.

Noting that the fund raising was not properly attended by expected donors, he disclosed that the fund raising will be held once again in Lagos because “the real big boys of Anambra State who love PDP and will want to contribute to the success of the party at the poll live in Lagos”.

Expressing concern that the committee has not been able to go to Anambra to campaign due to the present situation at the federal level, Jonathan assured Anambra PDP members that himself, Senate President, David Mark, Speaker, Dimeji Bankole, and other chieftains of the party and government functionaries will soon come to Anambra to campaign for PDP.

“We must storm Anambra State before the election,” he said.

Co-launcher and the chairman of the occasion, Emeka Ofor, made a donation of N100 million.

Represented by a man who introduced himself simply as Chief Anonefor, he stated that the PDP has what it takes on all fronts to win the election.
