BENUE State Governor Samuel Ortom, today signed the anti-open-air grazing among other bills to law.

At a ceremony in government house, Makurdi monitored by Naija Magazine Online, the governor decried the suffering farmers have faced in the hands of marauding Fulani herdsmen.

He hoped that the new law will put an end to the lingering crisis in the state.

He admonished Nigerians to adopt ranching, which is now an internationally acceptable practice.

He noted that the new law is not an anti-Fulani or anti-people law.

It will be recalled that the Benue State House of Assembly on Thursday, May 4 successfully passed the bill prohibiting Open Rearing and Grazing.

Offenders stand the risk of a 5 year jail term and a fine of one million naira.

He also signed the anti-kidnapping bill to law.

Speaking further at the stakeholders meeting, the governor condemned the current strike by Benue State University staff despite efforts of his government to pay their salaries.

He also apologised to the state workers for backlog of outstanding salaries, arguing that what the state government gets each month (from the federation account) is not enough to pay salaries.

The anti grazing bill would be repealed if Buhari freed himself of his illness.

Simplest of all simple solutions

Our yeasterners x LiePobians would rather shoot propaganda video, upload pictures of communal clash and blame it on herdsmen hoping the world will listen and believe their lies

Simplest solution what Benue state did

You mean the same Fayose that posed for pictures among local hunters with their hunting guns?

You must be talking about another Fayose in a different alternate universe

Comercial cattle ranching is the answer. Let the herdsmen be allowed to build great agricultural conglomerates not the grazing reserve stuff that is so political it can never work.

Nice one from Otom. I hope machinery has been put in place to ensure effectiveness of the law. These herdsmen must be tamed.
