What could have been a human disaster was this morning averted by the joint operation of Lagos State agencies led by Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Fire Service and its Ogun State Fire Service as well as TRACE officials with the evacuation of a 50,000 liter PMS laden tanker that fell in Magboro, Lagos – Ibadan Expressway.

The 50,000-litre tanker, with the registration number, MKA 88 YS, belonging to MRS Petroleum fell around 8:00 a.m. today at Magboro, before Mountain of fire Ministries Bridge causing panic among residents of the area as well as road users.

The content of the overturned tanker had spewed to surrounding environment, with food sellers hurriedly evacuating their wares around the area.

Before the arrival of security and traffic control agencies, hundreds of residents were scooping fuel oozing out of the tanker into buckets and jerry cans.

It took the intervention of police and road safety officials to disperse those who had gathered round the fallen tankers with all sorts of containers.

As the time more agencies were mobilized to the scene, some of the residents were seen fighting and carrying jerry cans of scooped fuel.
The evacuation exercise was carried out with the direct supervision of the General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu.
