Labour received a double boost this week as two separate polls showed Jeremy Corbyn's party closing the gap on the Conservatives.

While Theresa May's party still enjoys a comfortable lead, Labour has made gains since its manifesto was unveiled.

An Ipsos MORI survey for the Evening Standard found Labour had put on eight points, trimming the Tory lead to a hefty 15 points, while Mr Corbyn's personal leadership ratings had also slightly improved.

But the telephone poll - the first since the launch of Labour's manifesto - found that Theresa May remains on course for a major victory in the General Election on June 8. The Conservatives were unchanged on 49 per cent as Labour climbed from a rock-bottom 26 to 34 per cent.

The Lib Dems are third on seven per cent, down from 14. But the biggest loser is Paul Nuttall’s crisis-stricken Ukip, down from four per cent to two per cent.

In a separate poll by YouGov, Mr Corbyn's party was up to points on 32 per cent, with the Tories down one on 45.

Here is the latest graph showing the poll of polls from Britain Elects – providing a clear picture of how the parties stand in the run-up to the ballot on June 8.

Meanwhile, bookmakers are clearly backing the Tories to see off the challenge by Mr Corbyn’s Labour and the Liberal Democrats, who are campaigning for a “soft Brexit”.
