The Indepedent National Electoral Electoral Commission has set up a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged double registration by the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

The source said the action of the commission would be determined by the report of the committee.

The source was silent on the membership of the committee and who is heading it.

The source said, “The Kogi office of INEC has set up a committee to investigate the circumstances of the double registration by the governor.

“A decision was also taken by the commission to wait for the outcome of the panel’s report before taking any position.
“The offence has been committed but the commission needs evidences, they have to wait and investigate everything before taking action.”

It was further gathered that the commission had taken a decision to prosecute the governor after the expiration of his tenure.

Our correspondent learnt that the commission would have embarked on prompt prosecution of the governor if not for the immunity clause contained in Section 308 of the Constitution, which shielded him from legal action.

The source argued that the situation would not be different from the cases against governors who were investigated while they were in office and prosecuted after their loss of immunity.

He said, “According to the statement by the commission, the only thing that is preventing the commission from prosecuting him is his immunity.

While you may not be able to prosecute a sitting governor, he faces the wrath of the law after his tenure.”

When our correspondent contacted the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, he confirmed that the commission had set up a committee to investigate the issue and referred our correspondent to the commission’s statement on Thursday.
Oyekanmi would not make any further comment on the issue when pressured further.

What is there to probe? The evidences are circumstantial enough. There is a picture of a Man (an INEC staff) doing the registration in Govt house lokoja and there is an INEC record that has the Bio-metrics.( finger print & Photo capture eye balling ) of Mr Bello having done a full registration in Wuse Abuja. So what is there to probe for? What are the consequences of for Mr Bello registering twice and what are the punitive measures for the INEC officials who violated the electoral act and INEC rules by going to do "HOME SERVICE" registration for Mr Bello. I expect the officials form INEC to be on suspension by now. INEC is just using the fake probe to attract Mr Bello's Oga, Chief Edward Onoja to come bribe them. That's the end game.

what is the probe for? kick the ediot out through the court, no need to seek for a scapegoat here, the ediot knew he already registered before doing another registration, ignorance of the law is not an excuse, how much more an intending ceo(as at then) of the state that knows not basics of the law.
