I need to be blunt about this message that is bothering my mind.

If the crisis in the presidency is not solved soon or takes any dangerous or uncertain turn, the US will likely react militarily. In 2008 the US revealed that they have a contingency plan should Nigeria become unstable;

Among scenarios examined during the game were the possibility of direct American military intervention involving some 20,000 U.S. troops in order to "secure the oil," and the question of how to handle possible splits between factions within the Nigerian government. The game ended without military intervention because one of the rival factions executed a successful coup and formed a new government that sought stability.

Some people have made arguments that the US is war weary. What an error! In a current poll by FOXNews, over 70% of Americans supported US boots in Yemen http://en.rian.ru/world/20100104/157460179.html (http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2010/01/03/decide-engage-yemen-offensive/). It is easy to see that the same argument can be made for Nigeria, especially when the costs of such an action will be repaid almost immediately. The stated aim of the US is to secure the oil, but we are providing them with have a massive pile that they can pick and choose from; there are the human rights abuses in the Niger Delta (which can be extended to include the treatment of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan), there is the real fear that the country will implode and destabilise West and Central Africa.

Others have argued about US military capabilities, especially as derived from the goings on in Iraq and Afghanistan. But they forget the most important thing, the relevant sections of those countries populations are united; whereas, in Nigeria, the Niger Delta has been alienated by the brutal tactics of the nations own military. It is likely morale in the Niger Delta might not be disposed toward fighting of boots that have come to secure trade and are not bombing or razing down their communities.
If we do not right our sickening political slide, we will pay a very heavy price for not loving one another.

With the amount of tension in the polity, elections might not even be possible in 2011. It is not impossible that a coup might also be sponsored by foreign powers with the goal of reaping up the political balance in Nigeria.

The dangerous, edge of sit politics Nigeria is playing will lead to sorrow.

The whole of the ND (including the Igbo's) needs to come up with a policies in relation to the US, as well as regional progress. There is no better time than now.
If Nigeria wants to squander itself with ugly tribal politics, then let the ND (and surrounding areas of interest) who have always borne the brunt of inhumane actions try to get the best they can out of US policies (which lean in our direction anyway).

Rather than scale back, we need to dramatically escalate and intensify cooperation in the ND. Cooperation is already exemplary, but needs to be strongly focused toward set goals and landmarks for both the region and surrounding areas.

In 2008 the US revealed that they have a contingency plan should Nigeria become unstable;

The question is what would make Nigeria unstable?

Who defines whats stable and what is not stable?

Could Mutallab be a pawn in part of the definition of unstable Nigeria?

This topic has nothing to do with Mutallab and Nigeria is already unstable (even to the blind).

Unfortunately, the US is not ready to deal with regional faction, but prefer to deal with the federal government who currently controls the oil fields. The Nigerian government will not welcome US "poke nosing" in her internal affairs.

I agree with you that cooperation between SS and SE will only serve to improve the lot of all parties.

What will they do? Issue another 7 day ultimatum, only to deny it? grin
The moment chaos looks immiment in Nigeria, anything can happen. The US has already warned several times, that it might intervene militarily in Nigeria in a way that will not be in Nigeria's interest. If we don't get our act together, what will anybody do if the US comes in to "secure the oil"? For one thing, if the US comes, they will very likely find support, because our very own army has been using its "fellow Nigerian" as target practice; this includes wiping out 50 communities since 1998 and such dastardly actions as attacking women and children who were at a festival in merriment, with helicopter gunships and shelling from the ships at sea. I don't see the what effect of the Nigerian government not 'welcoming US "poke nosing"' will have.

If a US invasion actually happens, (the invasion may not be necessarily bad for Nigeria) I wonder what the Chinese response would be.

They need to come and hurry up to protect pipelines from militants and train Nigerian soldiers- as africom is suppose to. Obasanjo practically signed Nigeria up for Africom, Yaradua and his govt fumbled trying to give amnesty trash to militants.

the USA is stretched to the point that an occupation of Nigeria is unlikely to happen.  It would take a UN coalition for the US to even consider this.

How does this names of President of the Republic of Benin. sound to you, like yoruba names.

Sourou Migan
Justin Tomêtin
Mathieu Kérékou
Iropa Kouandété
Boni Yayi

Look at the name above, you can take it to any yoruba in nigeria, they would tell you this name look Yoruba. Kerekou ,made several effort to unity the twoNow really apart from kerekou , . kerekou also have some bariba root in him. Kerekou in yoruba means He would not die. Kerekou cousin was Iropa Kouandété. Take for example Iropa. Go ask any yoruba man what Iropa means. it is a name given to a child, when all hope is lost. Even migan nearly made the republic of Benin part of Nigeria. iropa was also president. Migan is from around the sabe area. Tometin, root is from the royal house who trace his root to either Oyo or ife. I cant remember which.

All this name above were Presdient of the republic of Benin. There are 3 abeokuta. 2 of the three abeokuta are in the Republic of Benin.

The truth is Nigeria is a terrorist nation. It is my country. but we are really one. Please find out the meaning of the word. And the USA should send troope to save the lifes of Yorubas. And here is it, why is the USA looking at Yemen when really it was a Nigeria plan to bomb the USA.

The issue is if you dont remove the yorubas, edo, delta and bayelsa state into benin republic, you would have problem. And America can create a military zone between the two country.s And we are calling on president Obama to protect people lifes. Our people lifes, to send the troope to Nigeria, take us out of the terrorist zone.

We need the 20,000 troope to protect the yorubas, edo, delta and bayelsa from terrorist. They are going to be on our land and not coming to the north. So it is none of your business you.
