A short story of the life events that turned an innocent young boy to a Casanova.


At about 1pm on a hot Wednesday afternoon, Dave sat at his post under the umbrella where he sells recharge card. Dave is some six weeks into his thirteenth birthday, just some few weeks earlier, he had just concluded his junior waec. He is the last child of eight children and some what the favorite of his mother. His post at the business center consist of two chairs a table and an umbrella.
While silently praying for the next customer to come by so he can make some sales, what he saw was beyond his imaginations, the view was that of an angel. Not that he hadn’t seen her before, this time she looked different in her white short sleeved uniform top and her flowing pleated skirt which wasn’t longer than the length of her waist to her knee. He thought within himself that she looked amazingly beautiful.
She is light complexioned, almost same height as Dave was and a little fleshier than Dave. She has a well rounded face with a pointed nose and a lip which produces the best smile he had ever seen.
Dave stood up as if remotely controlled as he walked up to her and for the first time in his life he walked up to her and tried so hard to babble the words ‘hi’ ]and hi she replied. His heart was thumping like the piston of an internal combustion engine. After trying so labouredly to calm himself, he was finally able to let out the words from his mouth. He asked her what her name was and she replied ‘’Michele’’. And he asked again how her day at school went and she replied fine. Immediately he again found himself short of words. this time it seemed as if he had reached the edge of a cliff where any more word he said would push him off the cliff. after several minutes of staring into the empty sky without uttering a word to her she said to him ‘’I have got to go’’.
After she left, he felt as if he had been placed on top of the world, the butterflies in his belly were not only flying but dancing. After sitting for another thirty minutes Dave went to his house. his house is less than thirty meters from the place where he sells. His house was a three bedroom flat, one of three in the compound. On getting inside, Dave did so little to hide the excitement on his face as he was almost smiling from ears to ear. Fortunately for him, no one had his time at that moment to care to ask the reason behind his jolly smiles. Dave’s mum and two of his six brothers and his nephew were all concentrated on the program running on their free to air cable TV. His nephew peter is now three and a half years old. He was born after Dave’s eldest brother got a neighbors’ daughter pregnant. Peter was growing so quickly with love from everyone. Dave sat close to his little nephew and rubbed his hand through the little boy’s hair affectionately and the little boy grasps his uncle’s hand in return of affection.
The following day couldn’t come early enough for Dave as he was already dreaming and fantasizing on seeing his new found friend. Dreams and fantasy, Dave knows so much about this two concept. when he wasn’t sleeping, he would be fantasizing about how his life will turnout so perfectly, how he would finish school with a very good grade, become a medical doctor or a mechanical engineer or a very good computer scientist, the very best, who will become a world famous hacker. The idea of becoming a hacker he got from the numerous science fiction American movies he had seen. Other times he will fantasize about becoming one of the wealthiest men in the world, where he’ll find the woman of his dreams and marry her. During this time, Dave had no idea the qualities to look out for in a woman besides the good looks. Dave wasn’t selfish, some other times he fantasized about his family, on how all his older siblings will all become successful in their chosen fields and all attempt to change the world for the better.

When Dave wasn’t awake he would dream about almost every thought that had crossed his mind during HIs moments of fantasy. That night Dave slept very early as he was tired from playing football earlier in the day after his shift at the business center had ended. he did not have the time to fantasize about his new found friend but he wouldn’t miss the opportunity to dream about her.
The sky was clear, the sun mild and the temperature just perfect for the anticipated romance. Dave is a very shy and reserved person and when he noticed that the street was almost deserted, he became more excited and almost certain that everything will work out perfectly as planned. After looking out for about twenty minutes he look up and saw her at a distance of about fifteen meters away from him. he fell deeper in love with her and he noticed his heart skip a beat. As he quickly walked up to her, he got the biggest surprise of his life when he saw her running toward him. On reaching her, he tried to let out the words of a salutation but his speech betrayed him. She didn’t utter a word before she kissed him.

A sudden cold sensation in the lower part of his body woke him up from his dream and the mixture of shame from thinking he had bed wetted and the excitement he felt from the kiss he got in his dream left him in no man’s land without a word to describe his present state of mind. Luckily for him, he had slept alone on the bed the night before that afforded the chance to clean up the mess he had done.
