OP has a valid point and he is been realistic, people should atop castigating him...we have masters and PhD graduate outside who earn 200k...ask yourself this question...is that money?....... After all the books, the late nights and garri soaking.... We have masters graduates teaching and earning 30k in schools.. It is what I know!!!... My advice to people is that if you can read fine,if you can't...no problem..do business and make money....most rich men in the world are self made men not book men!!!!...school education while not overrated, is not everything!!!

Guy its so bad that LAWYERS dey teach for secondary school sef

Those that got jobs after University dont have two heads. Just thank God that you are at this point in your life, Please try to finish school cz tomortow thinks for itself, Do you think that every apprentice that learnt a trade where successful either? Some of them are there wishing if they had went to school, be grateful of what you have and pursue for what you want. This mentality of that Nigeria is so bad is not really cool yet i have never seen a Nairalander who doesnt eat 3square meal a day, i have been to Mali, Senegal, Congo, Madagascar and i see the people there and realize that Nigeria is still heaven and that its people dont even strive to survive. They survive already just that everyone want too much money at once. My bro keep doing what you doing cz you re on the right track

Since my day one in school i've started grooming myself to be great without my certificate. I only had the target of graduating from University so that I can stand tall among anyone anyday anytime. Presently a Corp member though.

stop telling me that, this your mentality is what is killing us today as youth of nowadays, believe what. let me tell you that real reality on ground, there is no jobs out there, unemployment rate is on the high side. stop this believe this and believe that mentality.
every single day people are getting recruited/hired you just have to believe in yourself, keep an open mind and position yourself for that job. If you want an office job learn about how offices run by reading a lot or doing internships. Do qualifications too to keep you ahead of the millions that studied business related courses like you. You just have to stand out. Even in the best countries people sweat to get jobs.

I opened this new moniker just to lay my frustrations as typical Nigeria youth who is tired of the whole system.

when I was in secondary school I was among the best in my class,is either I came first, second or third I never had any position below them.
my parents were so happy and proud of me and vow to train me up to University education even if it will cost them starving just make sure I attend University because they were poor.
After hearing this from them I became so happy and elevated (remember those feelings then that u will go to University, those feelings no be here) at that time I don't think about anything else except University, jamb, post utme , life in campus and any other thing relating to University.
I wrote my first jamb in 2009, scored above 260, then score relatevely high post utme but I was denied admission in one of the federal University in Nigeria not because I didn't meet the cut off mark but because I don't have money to runs the admission,I lost the admission that year and became so frustrated and dejected.
let Make it short, i have been writing jamb from 2009 till lastly in 2013 when I got admission to study marketing in one the state University in South East.
I,m in my final year now studying marketing just few months for me to graduate.

3 Had it been my parents advice me to learn trade by now I would have been my own oga controlling millions.
4 I have to start afresh and enter the streets for hustling because there is no jobs out there, so why the certificate when I can read and write with secondary education.

Then, why did I spent all the years looking for certificate that I may not use tomorrow because streets pays more than salary.
I remember how I hustle during holidays to meet up the needs in school thinking after graduation good jobs are there waiting for me.
Should I said I wasted my time acquiring University education or what, somebody should answer me.
I think I regret Ever going to University.

Sounds intriguing.. However, I trust people like you write in third person's language..
To those who feel.. The writer is pessimistic.. I beg to disagree.. Someone will not carry his/her fone to type that short essay I'd he has actually not seen something..

He's likely telling us what spurred him to action in a bid to call on our Ogas at the top..to help us(at least some of them will have time for social networking or have media agents)..

Let's all be positive.. At least we meet great minds in Universities..we live together and "read-cram" notes, materials and textbooks *together* for 4,5,6 years.. The way forward for now is to think out of the box.. Most Universities "force us" to pass general courses.. GNS or GES etc.. Civic Education and Trade are now important in SSCE .. Yesterday's thread on 30 under 30 made me feel happy that.. There's hope and as well sad.. because I shouldn't sleep too much again..

Let's start with something .. work collectively..be optimistic.. good hearted.. God conscious and prayerful..

God bless me, my family and Country

You just need to change your friends or the information you are exposing yourself to. This your premise is very wrong on both sides. Are you saying that all who ventured into business 5 years ago are now millionaires? Or that all graduates are unemployed? Wow! what a mindset/mentality.

think the writer is just venting, as he pointed out. sometimes men need to vent, don't teleport yhurself out of a negative with adequately giving that feeling or situation the negative attention it needs be it tears, depression, prudding, complaining etc.
the trick is raising up from that negative state when yhur satisfied, if his as intelligent as he said he is, he'd pick himself up.

I watched a local football match in a school playing ground. As I sat down, I asked one of the boys what the score was.

With a smile, he replied; "They are leading us 3-0" !

And I said, REALLY!!

I have to say you don't look discouraged.

"Discouraged?" the boy asked with a puzzled look ...

Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle?

I have confidence in the team and the managers; We shall definitely overcome!

Truly, the match ended 5-4 in favor of the boy's team!

He waved at me gently, with a beautiful smile as he left; I was amazed, mouth wide open; Such confidence; Such beautiful faith;

As I got back home that night, his question kept coming back to me:
"Why should I be discouraged when the referee has not blown the final whistle?"

Life is like a game.

Why should you be discouraged when The Almighty God is your manager? Why should you be discouraged, when there's still life? Why should you be discouraged when your final whistle has not sounded? The truth is that many people blow the final whistle themselves;

But as long as there is life, nothing is impossible and it is never too late for you.

Half time is not full time and HIS calendar for your life is not man's calendar.

Don't blow the whistle yourself.

BE ENCOURAGED! DON'T GIVE UP.

With God all things are still possible!"

Everyday is a fresh start with potentials. .. keep the faith.... keep on believing in God .
Never over until Jesus the referee of all referees says it is over. Enjoy your day and God bless you.

yhur not alone duo, the way I understand this been I was in a similar situation.

IF YHU HAD NOT GONE TO THE UNIVERSITY, YHU WOULD HAVE SPENT ALL THE YEARS OF YHUR LIFE CHASING IT AS A GOAL,HEREBY WASTING YHUR LIFE.

-IF YHU HAD NOT GONE TO THE UNIVERSITY AND TASTE THE LIFE, COMPARED THE QUALITY OF YHUR LIFE NOW AND THE QUALITY OF THE LIFE YHU WANT FOR yhurself IN THE FUTURE. YHUD NOT HAVE FIGURED THAY SOMETHING IS WRONG SOMEWHERE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

-WITH THE MINDSET OF AN SSCE HOLDER,THERE IS NO guaranty THAT YHU WOULD HAVE SUCESSED IN BUSINESS, THE LIKES OF MARK ZUNDERBURK, BILL GATES AND THE REST,NEVER DISCOVERED THEIR IDEA OR THEMSELVES WITH A HIGHSCHOOL MINDSET,IT WAS A COLLEGE MINDSET OPERATED UNDER.

-THE UNIVERSITY IS A PHASE YHUVE BEEN DESTINED TO GO THROUGH, IN OTHER TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS, YHUVE DONE THAT, NOW YHUR DISSATISFIED ,ITS TIME FOR THE NEXT CHALLENGE

ITS NO DIFFERENT THAN WAY YHU AIMED FOR ADMISSION AS A GOAL,AND CONQUERED IT, NOW YHUR AN ADULT YHU HAVE ADULT PROBLEMS ,CHALLENGES AND GOALS, CONQUER THEM TOO.

when the human mind focus on a goal, nothing else comes in between it and that goal, that's why yhu never reacher this realization, before yhu gained admission, till yhu achieve that goal all yhur effort and attention goes into it.

mehn just reload with positivity ,aim and focus on what yhu want to do next, yhur obviously intelligent for coming to this realization, yhur at that junction again to focus on WHAT DO YHU WANT TO FOCUS ON FEAR OR POSSIBILITIES ?.

there is an Igbo adage I like it says " WHEN A MAN WAKES UP, THAT IS HIS OWN MORNING "

YHUR AWAKE NOW,WHAT DO YHU WANT TO DO WITH THE REST OF YHUR DAY "YHUR LIFE".

if yhu don't know right now, look at the life yhu want for yhurself, yhur passion, what qualities yhu want Buh yhu done have and decide from there.

don't stress over it,it naturally would come to yhu.

My observations...

...You don't sound like a final student.

...You dont sound like someone who could score above 260 in his very first JAMB attempt.

....You don't even sound like someone who could be among the 3 best students in his class(except you are just 3 in the class)

...With this kind of your pessimistic mindset, you are not even the type to have the courage of making several attempts on JAMB. By the way, when did you even realised that having a University Degree is a waste of time? After attempting JAMB for several years and getting to your finals ? Why do you even have to write JAMB several times when you claim to be that brilliant ?

Guy , you need to tell us the real truth.
Personally, I think you are not even in the University at all. Maybe you are learning or have learnt one particular trade, because you couldn't enter the University (due to financial or academical reason ), so you are now looking for a way justify that decision because you feel bad about it.

Or

You are actually in school, but you are so discouraged with your low GPA, so you are looking an escape route because you feel you may not excel with such certificate .

Just say the truth and I will tell you the way forward.

I was quite disappointed once I discovered he has not even graduated. I thought he had roamed the street for ten years after graduating. who says obtaining a university degree stops one from doing business. so many students are doing business combined with their studies. stop telling me that, this your mentality is what is killing us today as youth of nowadays, believe what. let me tell you that real reality on ground, there is no jobs out there, unemployment rate is on the high side. stop this believe this and believe that mentality.

You are wrong! It is because we don't have this mentality that we are failing!!!

If you believe you can or you believe you can't, both way you are right. This is a very deep concept that if you understand and apply will take you places.

It was the concept above that gave me the courage to resign from my good job without any money and even go hungry for sometime before the story changed. If you don't understand it you won't understand. Like I said this is deeeep!!!!!! I am still a learner sef but it's working wonders for me.

Lastly, the "job seeking mentality" is what is killing many people. There are many opportunities in Nigeria to make it in life legitimately but the " l am looking for job attitude", God will do it attitude, I can't do it attitude among others are the problem most youth have.

It is very simple BUT NOT EASY. Many things to explain......

Nothing is impossible!
Re: I Regret Bitterly Going To University. by rollyfemmy: 7:34am On Jun 04, 2017
Going to university or polytechnic gives you a basic & pillar background in Life and the next level depends on your positive mindset.
Despite the situation of the country, your mind set towards what you think about yourself matters alot in Life.
Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh, As he thinketh in his heart so is he

This is a saying that goes those, where purpose is not know, abuse is inevitable, one of the reasons God gave us a mouth as individual, its to construct our future and not to destroy it.

please my friend i am not trying to condemn you but just to tell you to use your mouth wisely & delieberately speak positive things to your Life & future . And you will be shocked at what will come your way.

I was once in Polytechnic those days, where poly was highly downgraded in labour market, but when i got my job after graduation, i was paid equally as the university guys and after like 2 years i rose up to become the manager in my department (all my subordinate where UNI and poly guys).

Today what i earn, even bank managers are not getting that salary.

But what i will tell you is that please keep your mind focused and have close relationship with God. Your life depends on the resources of his kingdom and not the resources of Nigeria.

Screen your friends, because your association determines your destination.

In Life who you spend most of your time with determines the outcome of your life.

Just to let you know most people in the country are frustrated and very aggressive because they have concentrated their believe system on what is happening in the country and where the country is heading to.

Please my friend i know you are intelligent and you have a bright future. what you need now is having the right groups of friends who are positive & naturally incurable optimistic people. I was those kind of persons during my school days and i always speak positive even in bad situation and my friends then who can not just understand what i am saying logically always say i am crazy. but today they tell me i see that positive thoughts and words really shapes your life.

Please i am a very busy person but i take out of my busy time to write up this piece of information just to help you and other young youth who are given up because of Nigeria situation.

Since you read marketing you can start up with online marketing of product and services and you will shock at the response you get.
You dont have to wait until you graduate before doing that.

The state or local government area in which you are schooling now, go to any shoe maker shops, cosmetic shops, phones, laptop sellers and related items and take photo of the items and advertise online such as nairaland, facebook, olx and more websites and see the response that your get.

Please marketers can sell any thing. You can make your first millions even before your graduate.

Moreso people use facebook to show their daily life activities when they can equally use it for something more profitable.

I was once told Poverty is a mindset (very true). You become rich and successful when you solve other peoples problem.

The difference between a rich man and a poor man is simply the way they think, Rich see problems as opportunity to make money and poor sees it as a problem and complain about it.

People are in need of items and if they can not find it from the street easily, they can find it in facebook or olx and contact you directly and deal with you.

So please concentrate and focus, move with positive minded people and more importantly be very close to God and you will get the right direction.

Read inspirational book... Commendably book from JOHN C MAXWELL and if you starts with that you will see other related books to impact your life more. I wish you all the best in Life and God Bless.

Incase anyone need any form of advise and couselling from me...you can email me on rollyfemmy2003@yahoo.com..i will create time to reply you.

I will end my write up here. have a good day!!

You don't have to regret going to school. If you are from a rich and connected family then you can go to school with the hope of gaining a well paid job. But if you are intelligent and without connection, go to school with the view of discovering something to contribute to the society in exchange of huge financial returns . If you are very intelligent, then make a First Class, stay back in the academic society and lecture to transfer knowledge. Ignore all of the above, then you graduate to queue up for the very narrow to nonexistent chance for merit - that is if you are lucky to come back from NYSC before 26. Stay away from faith, face reality.
that is to say the OP frustration could be more if he can't make first class.
