Workers in Oyo schools lament bleak Christmas celebration

Members of the academic and non-academic staff unions at the six tertiary institutions in Oyo State have said they had no cause to celebrate Christmas because they were still owed up to 16 months’ salaries by the state government.

The institutions – The Polytechnic, Ibadan; Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo; Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igbo-Ora; The Ibarapa Polytechnic, Eruwa; The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki; and Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate – have remained closed since November when the staff declared a strike at the end of a 14-day ultimatum given to the state government to pay their outstanding salaries.

The Oyo State Government, through the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Adeniyi Olowofela, had denied the schools’ claim that it was owing them 16 months’ salaries.

In a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, which was signed by its Chairman, Muyiwa Olawumi, and the Secretary, Sikiru Isiak, the workers lamented that, despite the Federal Government’s release of various tranches of the Paris Club refund to the state government, funding of the institutions had not improved.

The communiqué said that while other categories of workers in the state received full salaries and celebrated Christmas, workers in the six schools had only received 25 per cent of their salaries.

“Our efforts so far have been futile. We have called on the state government to do the needful by paying our full and outstanding salaries but the situation remains the same. We also called on the government to restore the 100 per cent subvention to the six schools. We have also called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to intervene in the matter but we have not seen any improvement. Who then will save us from the situation?

“We are hopeful that they will come to our rescue before hunger kills all of us. To put the record straight, the state government still owes between nine and 16 months’ salaries of our members in the six institutions. Why should a section of the society be favoured while the others are wallowing in abject poverty? While other workers celebrated Christmas with their families after they were paid last week, we did not have the best of the festivity,” the statement read in part.

Tuition and Program Duration

Academic Year

The academic year in Korea begins with spring semester in late February to early March till June.
Each semester is 16 weeks (4 Month ). Fall semester begins in early September and runs through the end of December .

And student are allowed to work 20hrs a week, and full time during vacation. Work isn't a problem in Korea cos there r lots of work embark on.
For undergraduate programs the University may require you to take up a Korean language course before direct entry to any course.
Korean language program starts March-May, june-Aug, September -November every year, and you are required to pay tuition at least 2 semesters of 1year before the University will send you an admission letter.for only Korean language students...

Recent completed waec or neco not later than 2years
Bank statement and sponsorship letter (10000usd )
International passport data page or identity card page of sponsor

While Existing applicants are those who didn't meet their respective departmental cut off marks and decided to obtain DPP APPLICATION FORM as an alternative which is the best decision.

For all those that didn't meet their respective cut off marks, Pls relax, There is still a chance for you to revive your spirit of gaining admission this year, *EXISTING DPP APPLICATION FORM FOR OND APPLICANT IS ALREADY OUT*.

The program is 2years, as also full time program.

DPP students also receive lectures daily with the full time students .

DPP students also go for Industrial training , just like full time students.

The difference is The
body in charge of DPP program is a separate entity under the school management.

LINGERING STRIKE UPDATE
We want to use this medium to inform our fellow students that, indeed Student Union Govt of The Polytechnic, Ibadan is really working on the strike. Categorically, we can tell you that some measures are now exercised, and we wished you enjoin us with prayers and calmness to win this battle soon. As we all know that, the Union have been addressing this issue using media such as Radio stations and Social media to appeal to the Governor.
Apparently, on 28th December 2017, the Union met with a Honorable member of Oyo State House of Assembly, Committee on this ongoing strike. "He appreciated our motives of approach to this strike by not engaging in protest as it won't solve the issue, only complicate it. He gave us assurance of resumption by January but no specific date, if another issue doesn't come up. Presently, Oyo State Govt is devising a long lasting solution to the issue , but that wouldn't delay us too much. Finally, he said, subsequent development shall be communicated".
Moreover, we are aware that Alaafin of Oyo, interfered into this issue, based on the visitation of NASU members to his palace, thus prompt him visiting office of the Governor, yesterday, though we don't know the outcome of the meeting.
Cumulatively, we believe all these actions would give positive results soon, and God's will, we resume in January. The Union is struggling to work on the mandate given to us by our fellow students and we shall deliver. On this basis, we urge our fellow students to pend any mind of protest for now, because of our elitism and intellects. Though, we know that, this issue has taken much time and our student career is been delayed, but patience can solve a million year issue. Thanks for understanding and faithfulness.

waiting for 2nd batch is just like waiting for Jesus Christ second coming. If you couldn't find your name on the merit list and you met with your departmental cut off mark, then something is wrong somewhere you ain't cognisant of which is late already for legal means of securing admission.

My advice is to sought for an alternative or re-enroll this year again. Second batch is a matter of Probability 1/2. It is always Merit list & DPP lists.

Am 50% sure.

If you meet the cut off mark, you would be called for interview,
were you called for interview?
And if yes and you ain't admitted, I would advise you to check your o'level combo, if it tally with the course you applied for.
And if it tallys, then you should have Lodge a complaint to the admission office immediately after the merit list was released.
