Yoruba Is Not Dividing Nigeria Nor Are We Afraid Of Secession. by olawalepopoola: 12:50pm On Jun 06, 2017
An adage in Yoruba tribe says that “Eni ti Sango ba ti oju re wo le, ko je ba won bu oba koso” meaning that anyone that experienced how Sango went in the earth will never partake in abusing the King of Koso.
It is with pity and sore heart that I read through the comment made by an Hausa state man that Yorubas are the cause of problem in Nigeria. Contrary to his personal view I am bold to say that Yorubas are the most peaceful tribe in Nigeria. Let us take a brief look at history.
1. Awolowo wanted to become the president but never got there yet Yorubas never took to the street to fight and declare war. Instead they waited patiently for their turn in 1999.
2. Chief Moshood Kasimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola contested for the 1993 elections which he won but was never sworn in as the commander of the armed forces of the federal republic of Nigeria, yet the Yorubas never cause mayhem in Nigeria. Instead all other tribes including our Biafra neighbours stood for the Yorubas.
3. Obasanjo wanted a third term bid in Nigeria to be passed in the Senate in 2003 but the Yoruba stood vehemently against him that enikan ki n je ki ile ko fe. Despite being their son they sought the common good of Nigeria.
4. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was the vice-president to Late Musa Yardua who died in office. The Hausa hegemony wanted out of the office. The Yoruba stood their ground and fought the constitutional war with the Hausa and Jonathan became the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Jagaban Asiwaju Bola Hammed Tinubu speared this struggle with Chief Bisi Akande and other prominent Yoruba sons and daughters.
Can Yoruba exist independently as a nation?
All nations of the world have their sovereignty and free to choose who they associate with. The Yoruba nation have existed before the colonial era by the British and have practiced democratic rule more than any other tribe in Africa (Refer to the history and power sharing in the old Oyo Empire).
Let it be clearly stated that the following state are the Odua state (for the purpose of this write-up) include:
1. Lagos
2. Oyo
3. Osun
4. Ondo
5. Ekiti
6. Parts of Kogi (The Okuns)
7. Kwara (the Hausa knows that immediately Nigeria divides, Yorubas will take back their rightful throne in Ilorin).
8. Some parts of Delta.
9. Parts of Edo (The Akoko-Edo and the Binins)
It should be noted that the Yorubas are blessed with two distinct Geology. The Basement Complex and the Sedimentary basin (The Dahomey Basin). The Dahomey Basin host the second largest deposit of Bitumen in the world. The Basement Complex terrain host gemstones, Gold.
Our land is fertile and conducive for agriculture.
We have 3 states that shares boundary with the Atlantic Ocean meaning that we are opened to external trade. We have schools and good hospitals (UCH and LUTH).
Security wise we are the safest abode for any industry. Ogun, Lagos and Oyo states are our own industrial abode. We are bless with human capital and brains, which we shall use for our benefits.
We have 1 common language although with different dialects. This shall be our strongest points.
The Yorubas have learnt great lessons from inter-tribal wars and we are not ready to go to war again.
Thank you.

Yes your people are afraid of a divided Nigeria.

This fear is enshrined on Nairaland itself in which "Nairaland says no to secession."

Or when your people are always commenting on pro-Biafra threads and using fake monikers.

A call for a REFERENDUM by IPOB is one of the most peaceful forms of secession
