What Is Nigeria's Most Worrisome Problem by PHIPEX(m): 1:34am On Jan 20, 2010 |
Times and again I have heard people make comments like "if only Nigeria can get power supply issue right then all shall be well". To others it is all about tackling the issue of the monumental corrupt legacies of "our Heroes past" while the "progressives" believe that we can get to no where without adequately educated citizens, the list is just endless. Am then asking is it that we who wear the shoe don't know where it is paining us or is it simply that we are meant to have different opinions to every issues? remember that it is said that " a problem recognised is a problem half solved" WHAT THEN IS NIGERIA'S CHIEF PROBLEM? |

LACK OF DISCIPLINE- Systemic and individual lack of discipline. A man goes into office and can't keep his hands off the treasury to face issues of governance, Get Nigeria disciplined, and see our probles disappear!!! |

Disunity? THE BRITISH UNITED US WHEN THEY HAD NO RIGHT TO. We have paid with our lives ever since. We need to undo the wrongs of the British and divided this country into groups that can live with each other - not groups that live of others! |

Leadership? Nigerian democracy - We have unwritten agreements to rotate power amongst ethnic regions. Did the people of Nigeria vote for this? If not then we do not have a democracy! We have always been under a dictatorship (Northern) and this has lead to the demise of the Nigerian people. Instead of progressing naturally as a people, we are being held back by force. Enough is enough, |

@ Sun of god Nigerian democracy - We have unwritten agreements to rotate power amongst ethnic regions. Did the people of Nigeria vote for this? The peculiarity of the Nigerian Nation demands we can't have the kind of democracy practised in the US or UK. For example, in the US, Virginia has produced the most Presidents but who's complaining and who cares? Meanwhile there are states that have not produced any president, have we heard of any attempts at secession? We have always been under a dictatorship (Northern) and this has lead to the demise of the Nigerian people. Please speak factually. We know our History here. |

@ogazi007 We're poor because our governments have failed us. We're poor because we're heavily reliant on government. Poverty is caused by other problems. |

I don't know . . . May be we need a Jerry Rawlings. That worked in Ghana . . . But the sad thing is that, Nigeria is a peculiar patient that needs its own kind of drugs. "Panadol" can cure the headaches of many countries, but Nigeria needs a "combo" of several drugs: "Chloroquine", "Aspirin", "Paracetamol" or some drug not yet invented. . . What works for other countries, most often, does not work for us. |

The Bible says 'if the foundation be destroyed what shall the righteous do' i think the major problem of nigeria is the foundation, nigeria is built on falsehood and deceit. we cannot get any where if the foundation is not rebuild. we must start from the begining. |

Nigeria's most worrisome problem is the mentality of the citizenry [ both the leaders and the led ]. Until we change our psyche, things will not change in Nigeria. In our little spheres of influence, what have we done to make our country better? The little cash that has been entrusted in our care, what have we done with the money? In a country where corruption has been discovered among Corpers [ during the 3 weeks orientation camp ], where is the hope for the future when youths are embezzling the thousands they've been entrusted with? Won't they do more damage when they are entrusted with billions? The thinking of Nigerians has to be worked on. That is our most worrisome problem. Hmn. |
