I paricularly bought it because of sports and movies. those are the two things I watch. sometimes documentary.

Gentlemen of the forum (and ladies if any), I must say that Beeman must be very pissed at the present state of HITV's startup or rollout if I may say, which is natural and expected (hey, we all work for our money and do not intend to burn or waste it on things that does not bring fulfilment). But let us be mindful that these things take time and I'm sure they are working on it. I bought too you know, even introduced many of my folks to the network, we have some issues too but the way we go about it differs.

I'm an internationally trained broadcast Engineer (France), and this particular solution deployed by HITV has been tested even by my firm in France in several climatically hazardous regions of the world (Vietnam, Lyon, Emirates etc) without any recorded failure.
I'm not saying that you are not giving a true account of your experience, but let us question your installation before drawing conclusions on the technology.
1. Is your antenna hanging on a pole higher than 15 or 20 feet? this of course you will agree will dangle in heavy torrents of wind storm during rain.
2. Where are you feeding from? is it farther than 10km from where you stay? if your repeater station has signal then there is no reason why you should lose signal. As a matter of fact, during the heavy torrents of the early hours of the 26th of March, (Monday). i was still receiving the signals, at least for about 30 - 45 mins till PHCN  seized power. The laze of going out in the rain to start the Gen prevented me from testing further.
So sir, let us verify things properly before drawing conclusion.
In your case, I may help solve the mystery of what stole your signal if you can tell me your area and where your installer picked the signals from. I'm sure HITV Field operators will look into this ASAP.

I don't own shares in HITV, (though hope to in future) but I just love my country and wish to uphold its honour and Glory. I also want to be the voice in the wilderness saying make way, Beeman, cheer up, your movies and sport as well as an uninterrupted signal delivery (be it in rainstorms or Fire & Brimestone) will be delivered without fail, just believe it and it shall be, remember we are gods on earth exercising dominion,
I will get back to you on further investigations as regards my earlier assertion I will surely help your case. However, if HITV is guilty of witholding any info from the public, you will be first to know.

Besides,the rights acquired by HITV does not permit their transmitting Free to Air so let's ease up on the anger towards their scrambled channels.

I called their CEO and he explained and apologised for their current state. The sales reps gave us a wrong information. the started billing the very day it was installed. Also they have the rights to the stations already but NBC wants them to present them with a certificate which they are still waiting for. He said he wants to do things the right way. Guess that is the price for honesty. It is worth it though.
also I discovered that my dish shifted. I climbed my roof and adjusted it. I also suggested to their CEO that they could use the same hanger that DSTV dish uses to hang our dish to the wall. Hitv can give customers the option of buying it from them or installing it on a normal pole but the consequences should be explained. It should be a matter of choice. He promised to pass the message along immediately.

I forgot to ask when they want to start showing us the information on the program currently being aired and the next one coming up. So if I bump in on a program I can know the title and a brief on it.

I'm new in this chapter and from what i have seen and read, its interesting that HITV is finally opened for business.

To everyone that has one complain or the other, i want u to understand that its a new company with alot to offer. Yes, the beginning with be rocky but let give them the THOMS Up for this , come to think of it the likes of FSTV, TREND and the other have falling victim of DSTV's Exclusiveness of channles and content, if there is one ready to stand its ground and its proudly nigerian tets give it the support it needs.

Gave me a summary of what I wanted to know. What would you expect come August (the premeirship),from what you have seen so far?

They are not doing bad at all as per their transmission. At least La Liga is going on and they transmit the matched live. Though no half time comments yet. But in all fairness La Liga is great. So with that in mind I don't think they will mess up with premiership.

What I am waiting for now is their movies (ART Movies) Their Hi-mix and Hi-Nolly have been repeating films. I think I have seen all their films now both local and foreign. Maybe when they start billing they will show beta films.

I believe what Nigerian wants to know and be sure of are:
i. What exactly is the projection of HITV on number of channels and at what price? (are we looking at 25 channls at n3k per month?
ii. will the subscription increase witthing 12 or 24 months?
iii. will NCC release the pegged channels (owing to certification)within the course of this year
iv. what is their status with covering the country before August?
v. what are they doing about their campaigns for awareness?

My persoanl advice would be for HITV to concentrate on winning the hearts of the majority of Nigerians who cannot afford DSTV and to satisfy them with informaion of what their plans are and how they are getting there.
They should also play more on their advantages over their competition in terms of affordability and clarity.
This in the eventual will force DSTV to reduce their subscription and thus make them admit that they have been cheating/exploiting the nation thus far!
Generally, I believe HITV is a survivor and they should never give up!

Dont think they're ready to begin full operation, u can imagine the rip-off acquring a service and not being able to get value for over month!!! Dem need to stop operation and put their house in order, Shouldnt av given dstv out!!

Sega and Deeds are waay too supportive of this product for me to believe that they are neutral parties. How can you tell me that I should buy a product that's working well, just because it's Nigerian? Naah men, you guys are sales reps or something.

Guys, I have been away to so long.
How are u finding hitv? I am kind of disappointed. For sports lovers only, they cannot be dissapointed but if you look for more than sports on your cable tv, then you have to look elsewhere.
How can a cable tv not transmit 24hrs. Or why will they keep repeating the same film more than ten time. Don't they have any other film apart from Terminator 3?
Till now they do not have a dedicated movie channel.
I think they are just a premiership and La Liga tv. That seem to be their only weapon. A cable tv should cut accross every genre.
Give us documenary(Discovery, National Geographic Channel etc) to educate us and our young ones. give us Movies to watch till late night or when on leave and at home alone. Give us entertainment. Then they should STOP REPEATING FILMS. There are billions of films in the achive and new ones coming out daily.

I have permanently put off my decoder and resolved to buying DVDs (Prison Break, LOST, Grey's Anatomy, The Unit and the likes).

I work hard and expect to get some relaxation in form of entertainment which I am paying for but lo and behold, hitv is giving me hi-nonsense or hi-rubish.

HITV are focussing on getting their signals round Naija.
Good move but they also need to focus on content as well.

Does any one know how and what it takes to set-up a satellite broadcasting company in Nigeria? Just like dstv and hitv, what are the necessary things I need to know? The cost and their mode of operation. Please, I need this information asap as I am looking at getting a company to set up one that can have upto 500 digital channels for lower monthly fee and also introduce some new things like internet and communication style.
