Tumour is an abnormal growth of cells which can be benign (not likely to spread) or malignant (cancerous). This abnormal growth (tumour) usually but not always forms a mass. That means it can be there quietly without a knowledge of it unless you get checked.
Tumor cells grow, even though the body does not need them, and unlike normal old cells, they don't die. As this process goes on, the tumor continues to grow as more and more cells are added to the mass.

The symptoms of brain tumors depend on their size, type, and location. Symptoms include:
1. Headaches
2. Numbness or tingling in the arms or legs
3. Memory problems
4. Mood and personality changes
5. Balance and walking problems
6. Nausea and vomiting
7. Changes in speech
8. Vision or hearing loss

What Causes an Adult Brain Tumor?
Doctors do not know what causes primary brain tumors. However, several risk factors have been identified.

1. Some genetic diseases put you at risk for brain tumors. These include Turcot syndrome a condition characterized by abnormal cells and polyps causing genetic disorder
2. Radiation treatments for brain cancer can increase your risk of developing tumors.

How is an Adult Brain Tumor Diagnosed?
Afriglobal Medicare doctors use a number of tests to diagnose brain tumors.
1. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is used to scan your brain and nerve tissues. For this test, you lie down on a table that slides into a scanner.

2. Cranial Computed tomography (CT)
is a modern imaging tool that combines X-rays with computer technology to produce a more detailed, cross-sectional image of your brain. A CT scan of your head/brain lets your doctor see the size, shape, and position of structures that are deep inside your brain/head.

3. An electroencephalogram (EEG) examines your brain’s electrical impulses. We place flat metal disks on your scalp to see your brain’s electrical activity.

If you have or notice any symptoms of brain tumor, visit Afriglobal Medicare for diagnosis at No 8 Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos. Or call 016291000
