Correction US made an initial pledge of 100 million dollar and promise to commit to long term rebuilding of Haiti. i suggest you start all over again to read meanings into my points, USA DONATES 70 MILLION TO HAITI i dont really know how much each people donated. the above was supposed to make you understand how it will look to see Lagos state govt listed on the donation lists while Nigeria is missing, got me ? |

How did we wire the money? I'm just asking in case we hear stories, you know, nothing passes us by. |
Re: Nigeria Donates $1m To Haiti As Fresh Quake Hits by SamMilla1(m): 5:58pm On Jan 21, 2010 |
SmashingM: you have a point. who did we give the money and who gave it to them ? we will someday hear that Nigeria is owing haiti 1 million dollars and the present administration would have been long gone |

America had invaded and occupied Haiti for 19 years, from 1915 to 1934 during which 3,250 Haitians were killed by the invaders who lost 98 Marines while bequeathing Haiti with a $40 million debt. The US returned in 1994 to restore elected President Betrand Aristide and left in April 1996, only to come back eight years later to abduct and exile the same Aristide. Now it is back in the name of aid and this time it is uncertain for how long it will stay.- todays vanguard You can now see why i said that we need a little restraint when dealing with international community. Lagos cant just throw money without knowing who is getting the money. The Senators are not silly. they know about the earthquake. Fashola should not be exceeding his power limits simply because he is doing fine with infrastructures in Lagos. Haiti is owned by the United States. Haiti had been humiliated, colonized, abandoned, bequetted with billions of dollars of debt, etc. by united states They will throw money at haiti in order to take stand over there and rule again, some governments are sending doctors and diplomats with their donations. you cant just give Haiti govt money. |

selencious: You sound like you hold a personal grudge againt the poster . . . . . Wrong place to vent . . . . . You jst ended up making urself look silly . . . . Just saying . . . . @OP In as much as I'm torn looking at all those heartbreaking images on CNN, I'm also thinking of my "town people" in faraway Bayelsa State with no access to something as basic as clean water. Forget electricity. In this case, it wld be considered a luxury. As I have witnessed firsthand, most of these people are forced to cook with water from the river. The same river where they wash their clothes. The same river where they sh!t. The same river that has been polluted by the Oil Companies. They cook with this water and they fall sick. Because we dont have a Government "charitable" enough to establish a Primary Healthcare Center (a hospital would be a dream), most of these people die from such illnesses. They don't all die at the same time. It happens at different times. But at the end of the day, when we sum up the number of deaths over a period of time, it would be equal to the effects of an earthquake. I'm sure these people have people "representing" them in the lower and upper Chambers. I can't count the amount of people that were killed in road accidents in 2009. Most of which were caused by bad roads. Most of which could have been avoided . . . . . . . . . . . . !!! The list is endless . . . . . I sympathise with the people of Haiti . . . .I really do . . . but I'm also torn seeing my fellow Nigerians in similar situations and/or worse. If we had a functional country with functional leadership, we wouldn't have had to send $1m (or $2m) to Haiti in order for our impact to be felt, heard, seen . . . . I saw Mexican rescue teams pulling people out from ruins, I saw South African rescue teams, where are the Nigerian rescue teams . . .? Do we have a resuce team in Nigeria . . ? It's only a mad naked man that would run after another mad naked man telling him to dress up . . . . |

Re: Nigeria Donates $1m To Haiti As Fresh Quake Hits by follyg: 7:29pm On Jan 22, 2010 |
@Sam Milla, to the best of my knowledge, "Lagos State Launched an appeal fund of $1m for the people of Haiti". I dont think its already donated and individuals are been encouraged to donate into the account which is opened with Skye bank just as the members of Lagos state Executive Council have donated. I dont think its directly from the State government purse. Lagos State and Federal government are two seperate entities in the eyes of the Law, if federal govt is not responsive there is nothing legally or morally wrong for any state to be responsive as States are only accountable to its legislative arm that represent the people and not the federal government. The three arms of government should show mutual respect for one another, however, the federal government has demonstrated her disrepect to States, local government, the judicial arm and even the entire people of Nigeria on several occassions. On this particular occassion, i totally disagree that Lagos State has done anything wrong afterall our presido is on AWOL (Absence without Leave) |
Re: Nigeria Donates $1m To Haiti As Fresh Quake Hits by Kobojunkie: 7:33pm On Jan 22, 2010 |
follyg: Some people actually CLAIM the money is being donated from the state itself, and it is not just an appeal fund as explained in some articles. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-384451.32.html |

Cowards!!! of the highest degree. In a place where some people can not afford three square meal, dey are showing off by donating a whole N150,000,000 to haiti, Infact all the countries that donated money to them are a cowards, haiti is like the poorest carribean country and its known for suffering for many years, nobody volunteered to donate money to them then, now cuz of the earthquake, everybody is showing Mr. Nice Guy, we have a couple of them countries including Cambodia,Vietnam and so on dat are suffering and nothing is being done about them, so in my own view, Nigeria shuldnt have donated that Money!!! cuz it culd be used to solve asome of our problems |
Re: Nigeria Donates $1m To Haiti As Fresh Quake Hits by Kobojunkie: 7:49pm On Jan 22, 2010 |
noble_gas1: That is Not True! Please check your facts. There are stories all over the place of Aid agents caught and possibly killed in the initial Earthquake. |

Nigeria donated to a physical earthquake in Haiti; what about the psycholgical earthquakes in the country brought about by an absent president, corruption, armed robbery, advanced fee fraud, prostitution, etc. What earthquake could be more than 72 percent of your population living below the poverty line? We need a rebirth in this country. How much have they donated to the victims of these earthquakes in nigeria? |

well guy as you said otukpo: Agreed earthqake is a natural disaster but there are political disaster in Nigeria which the world is doing nothing about. there are crisis in jos, bauchi, everywhere. killings and burnings on daily basis. where is UN. US. EU. HAITI ? If anybody should lead the way in donating to Haiti, that should be Feds. Then State. [individuals can donate whatever and whenever they want.] have you considered how that sounded to the world ? USA DONATES 70 MILLION TO HAITI JAPAN === 5 MILLION GERMANY ------8 MILLION UK --------------7 MILLION LAGOS----------1 MILLION guy if say ur mama or ur family follow die or there you won't have mouth to say things about fashola , i think he have human sympathy, he need world recognitions. this is natural disaster , it be your turn tomorrow, fasho should keep it up, |

guy if say your mama or your family follow die or there you won't have mouth to say things about fashola , i think he have human sympathy, he need world recognitions. this is natural disaster , it be your turn tomorrow, fasho should keep it up, What are the differences between contaminated waters that cause cancer and kill indigenous people on daily bases and Earthquake ? What are the differences between Bad roads that kill hundreds of people daily and Earthquake ? Are you more worried about the Infrastructures damaged ? Well in Niger-Delta, there is no infrastructure to Damage. We live in a very poor country. Very Very Poor. I am not saying we shouldnt donate to Haiti. My initial argument was why Fashola rushed to give out the Money from Lagos State treasury without getting hold of the situation. The federal govt were still assessing things and was caught unaware by the sudden announcement of Fashola. Isnt it that a political ploy? read between the lines. Death is called Death everywhere in the world. Dont be surprised that some oil fields were recently discovered in Haiti. The the United states can now see an opportunity to Invade Haiti again. read here , https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-386349.0.html |
