Time To Pray For Nigeria by Nobody: 7:46pm On Jun 10, 2017
Good evening.

As I write this, recent events in our country have proven to me once again that we need to be up and doing and praying for our country. The recent bigoted call by certain elements targeting one tribe, and the response to said call as well as the economic situation, the anger and the bitterness left over from the last election, and the current state of insecurity in our land as well as the uncertainty in the leadership situation of our nation underscores the need to call Nairaland to pray....and to pray seriously.

Why must we pray for Nigeria?

It goes without saying that Nigeria is a contraption, a creation of the British for their own vested interests, welded together and formed from disparate peoples who at one time or the other were enemies of each other, and who share no common goals, or interests. It also goes without saying that since Independence, we have had for the most part, a raw deal from our leaders. Because our economy is dependent on the sale of raw materials, and sharing of funds from said raw materials, which does not depend on whether we have light, or water , we have overall been an underdeveloped nation of people reliant on the crumbs that fall from the tables of the elite. Indeed...why keep Nigeria one? Why pray for Nigeria.

We must pray for Nigeria following the example of our Lord Jesus Christ who prayed for the church in John 17. The church is, and has always been, never comprised of pure and holy people, but of sinners, who groan earnestly for the perfection that would be achieved on the Day of Resurrection. We must pray for Nigeria...because Christ, despite our sinful nature , prays for us, and makes intercession for us to the Father in Heaven.

We must pray for Nigeria because it is our Babylon. It is where we as exiles from the New Jerusalem, pray for its peace so that all will be well with us until that Day WHEN we return home to our Home.We must pray for its peace because we need that peace.

We must pray also for other Nigerians...because Christ has commanded us to pray even for our enemies. Even for those not of the household of faith, we must make intercession for them. Christ died for all, not for some.

PRAYER POINTS

1.That God forgives us our sins, our putting of other things like power, wealth, money, tribe, religion, etc before him, and that he takes his place in our lives as King AND Ruler.

2.That God does not allow the 'Quit Order' to be carried out, and that by the end of the year, every Nigerian will live in peace with one another.

3.That God Himself will address the individual grievances of each and every Nigerian in a way that is pleasing to his will.

4.That God forgives us our sins of bitterness, anger, and hatred, and that God will give us the grace to forgive those who have hurt us, and our families....for it is God who gives the grace to forgive...which we cannot do at all.

5.That God is our Security Guard...not man, not the government, but God.

6.That God preserves our Democratic system of Governance., and not allow any dictator, military or civilian to take over.

7.That God delivers our economy from disastrous policies....

8.That God ends the current security challenges in the North-East, and in the South...especially the problem of kidnapping., and the Herdsmen/farmer issues.

9.That God heals our President, preserve our Vice PRESIDENT, and the cabinet, and the National Assembly...and grant that they make decisions in line with His Will....not our will, or their will.

10.That God grant that we have a peaceful and violence-free run up to the election in 2019.

11: That God comforts us in the midst of our many sorrows, and satisfies all our needs and wants.

12.That God makes his Church to be Christ-centered, regardless of denomination or creed.

13.That God does not allow a repeat of the Civil War or any tribal warfare., or does not allow Rwanda or Liberia to be repeated here in this country.

14.THAT God hinders those who plan evil against a part or the whole of Nigeria.

15.That God entrench justice, and peace, and equity in our land.

16.That God brings an end to tribalisim, and nepotisim in our country.

You can add your prayer points, here or in private.

You do not have to pray for hours on end. Even a few seconds is enough. If you can fast, fast. If you can cry, cry. If you can do allnight , do all night. If you can do intercessory prayer., do that. If you can ask your priest or pastor to do the prayer, do that.

It does not matter when you pray, how you pray. Let us pray for our Fatherland. The crisis of the past must not be repeated.

God bless us all, and God bless, sustain, and keep the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

P;S This prayer session is also open to those who are not Chrsitians....pray in the way your religious belief instructs you. For atheists, wish Nigeria well.

Thank you.

I doubt that evolutionary theory explains monkeys standing up as due to aspirations....more often than not, it was a question of survival, and of getting food easily/better than your mate.

Evolution is always defined in terms of survival....so to speak.

On a more serious note, this post I made was as a result of a day of feeling seriously burdened and worried about Nigeria.

Knowing much as I do about Nigerian and African history, I know that one small thing can cause a large fire.

This asking everyone to pray is the best I can do for now. I am not in charge of Nigeria, I hold no political office, and I have a job and vocation that keeps me busy....was even at work today. Impromptu call.

Whether you believe, or don;t believe....you can do your best in your own little way...whether it works or not to make Nigeria better.

Let's pray.
