To be honest I don't know why when and how this Igbo Yoruba online war started here on Nairaland, but as an Igbo man born and raised in the North, I must say am hugely ashamed and disappointed in both tribe's forum members here particularly with my Igbo brothers.

One thing is certain, every tribe has got it's peculiarities, positive and negative alike, but the fact remains that Nairaland does not truly reflect the relationship that exist among Igbos and Yorubas. You guys are wrong.

There is no doubting the fact that both tribes hold one thing or the other against the other, same way some Igbo states hold something against other Igbo states and likewise with the Yorubas too amongst themselves, but they're not serious enough to cause the kind of rivalry and hate that is presented here.

I've lost count of intermarriages between both tribes I've been part of. I can't count the number of business and other partnerships that has been built between this two tribes.

Believe it or Not, Igbos and Yorubas have a common enemy in Nigeria. I say this from a position of knowledge as someone who was raised in the North. The Hausa man has absolutely no love lust for neither tribes. Rather depending on which of them favour there selfish agenda at any given time, the other becomes the enemy.
When it was time to rubbish MKO, the Igbos were the darlings, and when it was time to rubbish Jonathan, the Yorubas were the choicest of tribe.
It's all a gimmick. The war of words between Igbos and Yorubas only favors non other than the Hausa fulani.

I personally do not support a break up of Nigeria but I support a movement that would ensure equality and respect for all without one tribe feeling its the sacred cow. It is my hope that the Biafran agitation will make our Hausa Brothers rethink there ownership mentality of Nigeria and realise that we are all equal stakeholders in the project called Nigeria.

By the way, I must state neither the Yorubas nor the Igbos can make any meaningful progress in achieving anything in Nigeria without the strong support of the other. The South must cooperate fully in other to get anything out of the core North. Even the middle belt are counting on an eventual southern cooperation someday.

I have nothing against the Hausa fulani personally, but I think they've been too selfish and Strong handed as far the Nigerian project is concerned to very annoying degree.
On an individual level, they are unrivalled in many other good qualities in human relationships except Off Course for there penchant for violence against persons of other religion and tribe.

Enough is enough of the Igbo Yoruba online war.
We must learn to express our opinions without resorting to insults and hate speeches. I think very low of individuals who engage in such.

For those who fail to heed my advice, you can be sure the moderators of this forum are working on something that might make it impossible for you to do anything meaningful with this forum soon. Worst still, this forum might just attract the wrath of the government someday; that would be really bad for us all and the owners of this forum.

Be nice!!!!!!!

We have one simple request, stay out of Eastern affairs.

Most of the battles would end if Yoruba did not concern themselves with Biafra.

OP,the north is not a common enemy. The northerners love and hate other tribes with equal measure shown to them. Tribalism is everywhere in the country; among kinsmen, among statesmen, etc.
If you're Igbo, you would know that there are some things that your fellow Igbo man would never do for you, atimes, even if you offer to pay him for it; but a northerner can do that for you without asking you for a dime. What do you say to that?
The problem is with our leaders: yours and mine. Hold them accountable.
Champion the right cause whether it affects you directly or not.
That way,the nation will grow with conscience.

For your info, you have just contributed your own 4 liters of fuel into this fiery war between the two. Any attempt to stop the war is equall to 4 liters of fuel to the fire. So don't talk so that you don't contribute. Na advice o! Just see the comments that will come as a result of your post.

The fact that you believe in the indivisibility of this entity does not make it the best choice for everyone

I like your intention but your action or writeup will not change anything.

You cannot have peace without justice and fairness.

You have been here since 2008, and you seem to have a background in mathmatics, thus the least you could do was to study the e-war, analyze and call out its root causes and then profer a meanignful and practical solution..

Again, the e-war did not start today, and it's a mere symptom -not the substance - of a much more fundamental issue with your beloved entity which you do not want to see divided. This is regardless of the countless lives it has taken - and still threatens to take - just to remain a single entity.

When even a deity becomes this blood thirsty in igbo tradition, the collective usually unite to unanymously evict the deity from their community. And I'm sure that this entity is not a deity.

But as per the e-war, I too want to see it stop. But you won't keep quiet when malicious people peddle lies and hatred just to assasinate your character and damage the reputation of everything you represent and hold dear.

@OP, I fully agree with your statements. It is only on Nairaland I see this e-wars, in real life I have never seen Yorubas fighting Igbos or vice versa.

I hope we all can work together and make this country great.

OP, you made lots of sense and I agree that we should stop the unhealthy tribalism on Nairaland. It is really unnecessary and unproductive. However, I disagree that the North is a common enemy because in reality, there is no much difference between the political elites from the North and South.

Our political elites are the common enemy of the masses. Unfortunately, they use us to fight their battle when they lose out in political battles. They use tribe and religion to divide us when they are seeking for political power and office and when they eventually get what they want, they benefit only themselves and their cronies and do nothing for the masses.

Buhari is the president today but trust me, an average northerner has not really benefited anything from his presidency. I am a Yoruba man from Ekiti and I have not benefited anything personally from Osinbajo's vice/acting presidency. So, we should try to put the blame squarely where it belongs. Our political elites are our problem and common enemy and not the North.

Preach your sermon to your kinsmen that started it in 2009.

Carry your gospel to your kindred that stoked the flame in 2011 after election.

Take your crusade to your kith that were embittered with the voting out of their hero in 2015 and resorted to spewing venom, preaching hatred and calling for genocide.

Judaic Osus are the ones causing problem for the good natured and well behaved Xtian Igbos.

A truce of some form has been called many times and it didn't work. However it's true the status quo does us no good. But what to do? Do I as a Yoruba man watch as lies are peddled against my people? Do I sit and take the blame for a civil war I know nothing about? And do I sit and watch when an igbo man decides a Yoruba man is responsible for his present state whether or not he is to blame for his present condition? I say no to that, even though I always try to defend my people at any given time I myself have done so without testing my conscience and breaking rules or with insult to anyone or tribe. Now as regards relationship between the two tribes in the real world? The Day I began to loose the respect I had for igbos was not when I read a comment on naira land. But it was in my own state, oyo state where an igbo man, mind you old man and not a kid was raining curses on the yorubas as the election results were read on the radio, in one department store. Right here in my own state,an old igbo man was raining curses on my own people, imagine the insensitivity, arrogance on Yoruba soil. so Mr op. Don't be deceived, it's the same people you meet in your day to day life that come to spread hatred here, the fact that some are ashamed enough to hide it, unlike that old man is the only difference . so even though the status quo does us no good, I can't imagine letting these lies and defamation against people stand, the Internet is very powerful . Should the igbos decide to be more courteous and not result to blaming the yorubas for every problem of theirs , then we too will back down afterall we are the omoluabis

Hé said the north is the common enemy of thé south becos all southerners are easy prey to their religions violence...to the Hausa /fulani you are an infidel and a sacrificial lamb at the alter of their religion.if you are not one of them.. however the middle belt and the northern Christians are exempted...

I can assure you that someday one govt would crack down on all these social media platforms that encourage these nonsense racism. As per cooperation, I as a Yoruba man has and would continually call my Yoruba people to rethink our relationship with the Igbos. I believe we both can benefit from a symbiotic relationship. Finally, the online war between Yorubas and Igbos is more about competition. IGR, GDP comparisons etc.however this competition for supremacy is undermining the strength and relevance of southern Nigeria in the Nigerian project.
