The death toll in the first 14 days of Ramadan has reached a grim milestone: 90 attacks in 21 countries have yielded 1,018 dead and 1,129 wounded.

Welcome to Israel, Islam and End Time's running tally of worldwide jihadist terrorist attacks during Ramadan 2017. Check back for updates through the end of the Islamic holy month on June 24.

The death toll in the first 14 days of the holiest month for Muslims has reached a grim milestone: more than 90 attacks in 21 predominantly Muslim countries have yielded an estimated 1,018 fatalities and 1,129 injuries.

With more than half of the month leftover, this year's Ramadan is already the bloodiest in recent memory, far surpassing the 421 deaths and 729 injuries that took place during the same period in 2016, considered the deadliest Ramadan in years.

On June 8, the United Nations reported that the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) alone executed 231 civilians between May 26 and June 3 as they tried to escape Mosul, the jihadist group's last major stronghold in Iraq currently under siege by U.S.-backed local forces.

Ramadan began in the evening of May 26. The first full day of the holy month fell on the following day.

Although Iraqi officials have repeatedly said they are close to fully recapturing Mosul, the U.S.-led coalition has refused to declare victory against ISIS in what would be the most significant win against the jihadist organization.

Most Muslims follow the tradition of abstaining from eating, drinking, smoking, having sex, and other physical needs each day, starting from before the break of dawn until sunset during the holy month.

However, other adherents of Islam perceive Ramadan as a time when martyrdom and jihad is especially rewarded in paradise, prompting a spike in terrorist attack during the holy month.

Islamic extremist groups encourage martyrdom among their sympathizers and followers, promoting the belief that they will be doubly rewarded if they fatally castigate infidels during Ramadan.

There were 1,150 casualties — both death and injuries — during Ramadan 2016.

Terrorists – namely the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL), Taliban, and al-Qaeda– have already killed or wounded nearly 2,039 this year, with only 14 days into the holiest month for Muslims.

Among the 2016 fatalities are women, children, and members of the Christian minority. This year is no exception.

There are members of a wide variety of ethnic and religious groups among the victims: Westerners, Christians, Asians, Sunnis, Shias, and Arabs. Muslims of all sects made up the majority.

As recent attacks in England, Germany, and France show, the West is not immune to the Islamic extremists' call to attack during Ramadan.

Israel, Islam and End Times' count, gleaned from the Religion of Peace website in coordination with news reports, excludes the number of casualties directly linked to battles between U.S.-led coalition troops and jihadists groups, as well as Iranian- and Russian-backed troops loyal to dictator Bashar al-Assad.

If all of the deaths from the ongoing conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Libya, and Afghanistan had been included, the total number would be much higher. The Religion of Peace website acknowledges their estimate is an undercount, so the number of Ramadan deaths and injuries could be higher.

The latest tally was adjusted for the 231 civilian deaths at the hands of ISIS in Mosul reported by the UN.
