... The Community Arrested Them, Not Me - Nwanji Emma Nkeonye ... He Is Not Our President - Umuehea Youths Umuehea, a community in Ibusa, Delta State has been thrown into turmoil following events which have unfolded in the passing days. Reports have it that the youth President arrested three members of his group after accusing them of impersonation, forgery, threat to life and disrespect. Investigations by Universal Reporter revealed that the suspects where arrested on the 11th of June, but was granted bail by the Delta State Customary court, Ibusa on the 13th of June, after they were charged to court. Nwanji Emma Nkeonye, the President of Umuehea Youths Forum, while speaking with our reporters lamented that those causing trouble were the opposition he had in the community. He revealed how one of the youths threatened to kill him and how he was pursued with cutlass. He further emphasized that the accused beat up his mother and verbally insulted them severally. "Some of these boys, they are opposition. I remember that during my election they stood against me. By the grace of God, when I won I brought them together but they still brought in that division to the house." Nkeonye said. "Then there was allegation levied on me by this same people, what happened was that I stumbled on them collecting money from people without remitting it to the house, and I asked them why. It's from there they said the President did this or that," He said. He told Universal Reporter that "Onochie came with a list saying I eat N2 million abi N1 million. He reported me to Umuehea. They called me, I told them I don't have much to say, I only know that I have my receipts and I have my minute book. I told them that my minute book is my witness. "I told the elders that the allegation are much, but he should come out with only one proof. He went to the bush, printed a receipt, he impersonated me, that is the problem now". They were going to collect money from people with youths President's signature. The matter is between them vs Umuehea community." He said. Onochie Okolie, AKA Dubai, who identified himself as one of those arrested and charged to court, attributed the problem to a situation where youths plan evil for their fellow youth. He pointed out that the youths had in December agreed to save money so that they can start a business after a prominent son of the community, Rowland Nwanze had promised to support their efforts. He blasted the Youth President for embezzling the community funds and refusing to give account. "The President told us that he is the President and that his power supercedes everyone, that he is the Secretary, Treasurer and Fin. Secretary and everything," Onochie said. "I told him that I have a list of all the money we have been remitting and the money is over N1 million. He now said he will call the financial secretary, Mr. Peter so he can come and give the house account. But Mr. Peter keep playing us left and right, he later came and said the President did not give him any money ever since he assumed office. He cannot give account of how much we have at hand or in bank," he said. Mr Onochie Okolie thanked Umuehea youths for what they have done for him. Mr Okonta Ifeanyi, AKA Jasper, one of those arrested by Mr. Emma, accused the president of collecting and not accounting for monies submitted by the tax force committee. He estimated the money to be up to N800 thousand. He insisted that the president told them that they do not have right to ask him about the account. "Jasper resolved that the way to settle the quarrel, is for the president to go and tell the Diokpa that all he said against us were all lies". Mr. Okonta Ogorchukwu, who was arrested a day after the others agreed with their story. He stated that their problem started when they demanded for statement of account. "Ever since he accused us of wanting to investigate him. That very day, he told us that he didn't want to see us again in his meeting and that he has dissolved the tax force," the tax force chairman said. Mr Ben Okonta, an indigene of Umuehea said their president was appointed by the Diokpa, he revealed that there was no election and condemned him for arresting his brothers. "What he has done shows he is not capable of being a leader. He even asked the police to arrest Emeka Alanza and some other people there in our presence. I was highly disappointed." He said. He further stated that they (Umuehea youths) have resolved to suspend the president pending when the case is settled in court. http://facebook.com/universalreporter1
