One of the former presenters of the hugely popular BBC's motoring program; Top Gear, Richard Hammond, despite his 'concise' stature is a fantastic driver who in the course of his career had driven hundreds if not thousands of cars very well. From the smallest, under-powered to the biggest and the most powerful hypercars ever made.

He also is a good motorcycle rider and aficionado as he had owned and ridden several shades of motorcycles.

Some days ago he crashed heavily while shooting for his TV program. This crash nearly claimed his life but he escaped with some major injuries so is still hospitalized. This is the second time he is crashing while filming for their show though the first one was for his former show-Top Gear. The first crash happened as narrated by Wikipedia...During filming of a Top Gear segment at the former RAF Elvington airbase near York on 20 September 2006, Hammond was injured in the crash of the jet-powered car he was piloting.[93][94][95]:1 He was travelling at 288 mph (463 km/h) at the time of the crash.[96]. Hammond was completing a seventh and final run to collect extra footage for the programme when his front-right tyre failed. He also crashed while riding a motorcycle earlier this year while filming in Mozambique.

But the focus of today's write-up is on the newly built hypercar that nearly killed him. Ladies and gentlemen, i present to you the Rimac Concept One.

First thing you should know is that this car is not made by the usual names you would expect....Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg etc. This rather is built by a relatively unknown Croatian Hypercar and Battery engineering company called Rimac Automobili.

The second thing you should also know is that this car is altering the normal layout many super or hyper electric cars adopt of having motors at each wheel, this one has four motors and four gearboxes—one at each corner...whoa.

The production version of the car was revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

This car was in development for about five years finally showing up as a production model this year and going by the company's statement, only 8 will be produced.

The car is powered by front motors that can produce a combined 671 HP, and the rears can make 804 HP and the front powerplants are each bolted to single-speed gearboxes, while the rears get their own two-speed dual-clutch transmissions with 1180 lb-ft of torque.

8,450 lithium-ion battery cells power the motors which run along the center channel of the car as well as the rear of the passenger compartment.

Their total voltage is rated at 650V and capacity is 82 kWh which the makers claim can give the Concept One a range of 205 miles.

Other cool features of this car are:

A body made of carbon fiber
A chassis made of chromoly steel with aluminum and carbon fiber members.

Total curb weight is 4,080 pounds, which is hefty for a sports car, but reasonable for an all-electric hypercar with four motors and four gearboxes.

Steering is electrohydraulic.

Suspension is a double-wishbone setup with hydraulically adjustable ride height.

Brakes are 15.3-inch carbon ceramic discs in the front and 15-inches in the rear, squeezed by six and four-piston calipers, respectively. Also Rimac says the Concept One’s battery pack can absorb up to 400 kW of power from regenerative braking, yielding up to 0.6g of deceleration. 62.5 MPH to a standstill takes only a claimed 103 feet.

All that horsepower and the battery’s 1 MegaWatt of discharge capability linked to those four wheels moves the two-ton hypercar to 62.5 mph in just 2.6 seconds, to 124 mph in 6.2 seconds and to 186 mph in 14.2 seconds.

Top speed is rated at 221 mph / 353.6 kph.
