Young Achievers Summit by iamnigeria22: 3:29pm On Jun 15, 2017 |
Gov. Ambode, Pat Utomi, Aminu Gwadabe, Olakune Churchill, Chude Chideonwo and others to Speak. Young Achievers Summit is an annual convergence of achievers from different spectrum of the Nigerian economy; Agriculture, Politics, Media, Entertainment, Education, Finance, Technology and Fashion etc. The summit provides an ample opportunity for industry players to Connect, Collaborate and Co-Create. In the words of the Convener, Victor Okwuadi “at this defining moment of our nation’s history, we need this kind of engagement to challenge us to think, create and innovate. As you know, automation and artificial intelligence is changing things for the better. And in order to remain relevant in this 21st century, we must look within and explore our competitive advantage, that’s why our focus is on these 4 key sectors of the Nigerian Economy: (1) Agriculture: Agriculture accounts for about 40% of Nigeria’ GDP and 70% employment; made possible by small scale holder farmers in our rural communities. Now, instead of Nigeria trying to compete and out-compete the rest of the world in technology, automobile etc. Agriculture may be Nigeria’s shot at greatness in this 21st century. To achieve this, we must stop seeing agriculture as a Social Service but a viable business that requires a huge infusion of knowledge and innovations. It’s only by looking at it through this lens can we get investors to invest in all the value chain; thereby minting a new set of young millionaires in Nigeria. (2) Housing: 17 million people are homeless in Nigeria today. This is a big challenge and at the same time a big opportunity for developers. We need to quickly close the housing deficit gap in Nigeria through innovative approaches; it’s in the best interest of all of us, we can’t afford a Nigeria where people sleep on streets. (3) ICT: There are over 100 million mobile phone users in Nigeria. These mobile phone users consume ICT contents on a daily basis; making Nigeria one of the top 5 ICT consuming countries in Africa. There’s every need to move from Content Consumption to Content Creation. (4) Power: Power generation in Nigeria stands at about 4, 000 megawatt today; making power unavailable to about 90 million Nigerians. Nigeria needs about 50, 000 megawatts for a start. To change this narrative, we must adopt other alternatives. There’s no point putting every Nigerian on national grid when that grid cannot meet up with 10% of our energy need. We need a lot of innovations in that sector; we need to adopt off-grid solutions; and since a lot of Nigerians are going Solar, we should encourage it in a larger scale by allowing Solar Companies to build Solar Farms in our estates and places with high concentration of businesses. Our Organization, I AM NIGERIA Initiative has picked up these 4 key sectors of the economy, and in the next coming months and years we will be engaging stakeholders across board and at the same time promoting Public Private Partnership. So, the Summit provides an opportunity for young and iconic achievers to engage with industry players and share ideas as to how to transform our country and move our citizens from extreme poverty to economic prosperity.
