Following indictment by the Amnesty International for alleged human rights, the US embassy and British high commission in Nigeria have withdrawn and denied entry visa to some serving and retired Nigerian army officers.
This was disclosed by a board of inquiry set up by the army to investigate allegations of human rights abuses by the military in the country, This Day reports.

NAIJ.com recalls that Amnesty International had accused the Nigerian Army of human rights abuses and extrajudicial killings during their engagements with Boko Haram and IDPs in the north-east,

The AI also alleged that the army had carried out arbitrary arrests, unlawful detention, torture, forced disappearance and extrajudicial executions of pro-Biafra agitators in the south-east.

But the army board of inquiry set up to investigate allegations absolved the army of the allegations leveled against it by the AI.

The chief of military/civil affairs, Nuhu Angbazo, at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, June 14, said the army was not guilty of the accusations.
....He said after extensive investigations the army was found not to have violated human rights as alleged by the AI.

Meanwhile, due to the disturbing resurgence of armed banditry and kidnappings along Abuja-Kaduna road, troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army carried out a clearance operation at Rijana forest, Kaduna state on Wednesday, June 14.

This was revealed in a statement by the director of Army public relations, Brigadier General Sani Usman.

The troops cordoned the armed bandits' camp at the forest where they arrested the suspected notorious gang leader, Sani Ibrahim (alias Burtu), who has been on the declared wanted list of the security agencies in Kaduna state for a long time.

Similarly, troops mounted ambush along Zamfara state border with Kebbi state in which they neutralized 3 armed bandits and recovered 134 cows and 13 sheep.

According to the statement, the operations are still ongoing to flush out more criminal elements.
