We are a country without a leader. This should be expected. In every polygamous family if the head of the family is missing, and there has been intense rivalry between the wives and children, then you should expect something like this |

What is unbelievable about it We have leaders who are too dumb that they can't read their names backward. When this thing started in Jos last week, you would have expected the governors of the volatile states in the North to beef up their security but alas, they can't be pragmatic, at least for once. Now, the North is on fire. |

Why isnt the Nigerian Goverment doing anything about this? Imagine the number of lives that have been lost in Jos and yet all we hear is the same rubbish over and over again These muslims in the north are jst smthn else. There are loads of muslims living in Lagos and in the south. How many times have we heard of them being attacked? If it's to do eye service and send $1m to Haiti, the Nigerian govt will be efficient. It's mind blowing that they jst sit and do nothing about the culprits. So sad! |

Atlast u have all confirmed d violence though report said its been brought under control after lost of properties and death. I tell u Jonathan canöt do anything to d perpetrators of d jos and sokoto violence as d powers that be of northerners will not allow that. D way forward is to empower d vp or divide naija and give d norths a sovereign state where they can be killing themselves at intervals. |

this is one of the reason, you need to break the country. If they see the satellite picture. you would see civil war. I have lived in the north, all of your lifes are not save.

Fellow Nigerians, we should be very careful in ensuring that we use the space and opportunities available to us wisely when it relates to information dissemination. The need to exercise this discretion is even more crucial at times like this when there is tension in the country. I just spoke to a childhood friend in Sokoto and he has confirmed to me that Sokoto is very calm. He mentioned that the violence that erupted earlier was magnified by the actions of Area Boys (Dan Bangas) and the situation has since been brought under control by security agencies. I will strongly advise that members and contributors to this forum should get their facts right on the situation in Sokoto and other parts of the North before rushing to make personal comments on the state of affairs in the North. Such comments can only add to hatred and animosity especially when they express bitter sentiments. |

Nigeria must be broken into component parts so that way no one will say he is being ruled by people from other places. This is good in a case where if your leader fails you in jos, he cannot blame muslims in kano or sokoto for his incompetence. People that want sharia law and want to join the OIC will do so happily without opposition from anywhere. People that want a secular nation where every man is free will decide on what their constitution should be like. SOVEREIGN NATIONAL CONFERENCE NOW ! ! |

@citizenY And why is that? People are possibly dying and you consider that not topical enough to have a space in the frontlines? Man! How do some people just take human life or is it just because Sokoto is mentioned? I tire! |
Re: Violence In Sokoto? Not Religious/Political Says Police by edoyad(m): 10:56am On Jan 25, 2010 |
They're reporting 2 dead but in Nigeria that could be 10 or 15 dead. Just attack and kill people at will and expect the issue to disappear as if we're discussing chickens killed for new year. Even the chickens killed for new year is still being discussed in some families today. |

"There is fire on the mountain top and Nobody seems to be on the run" "One day the river will overflow and there will be no where for people to go"- ASA Nigeria is sitting on a keg of petrol! One day someone will strike a match and the whole place will be on fire! Rwanda did not start in a day. Neither did Bosnia. Neither did Sierra Leone nor Congo. It all started with intense hatred between rival groups and then pockets of tension everywhere. These religious tensions are getting worse by the day and it is obvious they would only continue to escalate until they probably consumate in a full blown war. Ever since the introduction of Sharia in Northern Nigeria these crisis have taken on a very regular turn. They have even worsened since the advent of the Yar Adua presidency. There is no doubt that the only solution to this crisis is to split this country along religious lines just like the India-Pakistan scenario. But the question is: How can this be achieved peacefully without much bloodshed. The North is against a split because they would lose out on the oil largesse. That is easy to solve. The south can offer up 50% of its oil to the north for the next 10 or 15 years years just to get out of this horrible marriage called"ONE NIGERIA" that the British put us in. The other problem is the fact that the north is landlocked so they would not have easy access to their imported goods. That's easy to solve. The south would offer duty free clearance to all Northern bound goods for the next 10-15 years. Other areas of potential contention would be states like Taraba, Plateau, Benue and all those other predominantly Christian areas in Northern Nigeria. That's easy also. A referendum would allow the people of such areas decide which country they would prefer to belong. Also, individuals should be given the freedom to decide which country amongst North and South they prefer to be citizens of. A split can be achieved peacefully without bloodshed. I am tired of the violence and its not going to abate anytime soon. We need to start realistically looking for a solution and quickly before it swallows everybody. |
Re: Violence In Sokoto? Not Religious/Political Says Police by Yusufi(m): 11:48am On Jan 25, 2010 |
Most of the claims about the outbreak of violence in northern Nigeria could for now be concieved as mere speculations. I am currently resident in Kaduna and so far, there has been none of such attacks reported anywhere within the state. My friends that are situated in other neighbouring states of Abj, Kano, & Zamfara have also confirmed the absenece of such reports as muslim traditional and religious leaders are battling it out with locals to curtail the spill over of the Jos crisis. Repraisal attacks as being pronounced can never go un-noticed in the north. My fear is that in as much as the recent massacare or alleged ethnic cleansing of an entire population of the Hausa/Fulani tribe in the village of Kuru Jantar in Jos is capable of not just instigating a repraisal attack up north, but it could also distabilise the entire national polity if action is not taken in good time to bring the perpetuatotrs to book. The locals from virtually all the states in the north have got family relatives that were brutally murdered in that village which was never crisis-prone as reports have it that the attacks were carried out by berom natives from outside the community. See full report below: http://english.aljazeera.net/news/africa/2010/01/201012333947758520.html I just pray that the Plateau state Govt cooperates with security operatives to fish out the culpable persons or else , |

@papabrowne, i never agree on most of your post before especially your views on the banking palava in Nigeria. but @ the above reasons . i think you are right . but what happens let say after 5 yrs there is national disagreement on some issues and those agreements are not kept. like we have in Russia and Ukraine over gas supply? back to sq. one? |

These religious tensions are getting worse by the day and it is obvious they would only continue to escalate until they probably consumate in a full blown war. your statement is rather too late. what was Biafra war all about? Was it not based on religious tensions between Hausa(Muslim) and Igbos(Christian). There wont be full blown war anyway because the military this time around seems more loyal to Nigeria than to saduna like we have in 60s. I predict more of such 'localise killings' but not on national wide scale. People need resource to carry out war which is sadly cannot be financed from these 'poverty induced killing' |

Yusufi you must be high on solution like your brothers. The perpetrators in of the kuru killings should be brought to book but what the people who started the trouble should be awarded the Bin Laden medal of honour i guess ? |

ode remo:Its good we finally have something to agree on. We would need to have any of such agreements tabled before the United Nations and other reputable world bodies before we conclude seperating the county, In the event of a disagreement or a breach of agreement, these bodies would serve as mediators and both nations would abide by whatever the outcome in the same way that Nigeria gave up Bakassi after the international court ceded it to Cameroun. |
