YESAA ANNUAL SUMMIT 2nd Edition VENUE: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CENTRE, ABUJA | DATE: SEPT. 25-27, 2017 The summit will be a gathering of about 1000 participants drawn from all states of the federation over a 3 day period of seminars, workshops, mentor/mentee sessions and peer to peer networking. YESAA has an objective to prepare and empower at least 3,000 youths annually in agribusiness, as agents of change, in the spirit of the Agricultural Transformation and Promotion Policy. SEMINARS: EXPLORING OPPORTUNITIES IN THE AGRICULTURAL VALUE CHAIN. This course will take youths through some of the hidden or uncommon possibilities in agribusiness. Research shows that knowledge of what to do may sometimes be a key for youth engagement in Agribusiness. Indeed with proper guidance and tutelage, some otherwise ignored opportunities may easily motivate young people to get started. The course will also focus on some successful entrepreneurs in agribusiness and how they made it. The idea also is to demonstrate to young people that agribusiness is a good and profitable career. TAKE AWAY At the end, it is expected that participants would have seen low hanging opportunities for engagement in Agribusiness, with a sharpened ability to even see more of the value chain. Participants would be made to reason and think agriculture as a business and not a developmental project. THE ABC OF GETTING STARTED IN AGRIBUSINESS. FROM BUSINESS PLAN TOP PRACTICE There are fundamental steps to getting started in every business and agribusiness is no different. Often businesses fail for lack of clear planning and understanding of the other basic steps. It is amazing how much proper planning matters in business startups, yet mostly ignored by entrepreneurs. This course will, in summary, take youths through business planning, the importance of business plans and how to write one, break even points and plans, gestation periods, patience in business, and other pre-operational requirements. TAKE AWAY Prepare young people against some of the risk associated with getting rich quick expectations and quick fixes. It would also impact the need for foundational works as a basis for successful outcomes in business. Business is no bed of roses and it is no different with Agribusiness. Diligence and hard work is required, with clear focus and passion on the job. ACCESS TO ANGEL FUNDING/GRANTS FOR AGRIBUSINESS STARTUP: WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO PROCEED This course will teach participants options available for user-friendly funding and how to activate same. It will dwell on the basics for grant writing and will also teach participants on how to write and access funding from foundations and other charitable sources.one of the biggest challenges for agriprenuers and small business owners is finding the funds necessary to launch and eventually grow in business. TAKE AWAY At the end of this course, participants would have acquired proper knowledge away from plain vanilla. Even to approach banks for funding, also require special basic skills SALES, MARKETING, AND BOOKS KEEPING IN AGRIBUSINESS FOR OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY. This course will take youths through on how to market and sell agriculture products, manage the distribution of those products and coordinate customer services. This will provide you with specific technical information to navigate the agricultural value chain successfully. TAKE AWAY At end of this course, participants will be prepared for a variety of careers with public, private, governmental agencies. Specifically, the marketing and sales track will provide you with the necessary skills for the following careers: Agricultural Marketing, Customer Relations, Logistics, Representative for trade associations, Retail sales, etc. WORKSHOP: MENTOR-MENTEE NETWORKING AND TUTELAGE SESSIONS: ACROSS THE TABLE AGRI CLINICS, AND BASIC ARTISANSHIP IN ACTION. This scheme will avail youths the opportunity meet and network directly with Mentors in the agribusiness sector. Participants will be attached to Mentors for practical knowledge, tutelage, and business development gains.
