The long arm of the law has finally caught up with eight suspected kidnappers who were responsible for kidnapping the driver of the Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, five students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria and and one Nuhu Bamali, a student of Polytechnic Zaria.

Parading the suspects at the Force Headquarters yesterday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Jimoh Moshood said following the frequent incidents of kidnapping along the Kaduna / Abuja route, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris ordered the deployment of six hundred Police Patrol teams on that route to prevent further kidnap and other violence crimes and ensure a hitch free movement onthe Kaduna/Abuja Highway.

The team comprise of Special Intervention Forces (SIF), SARS, Anti-kidnapping Units, Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Unit (IRT), Mobile Police Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and Ninety patrol vehicles.

According to the Force spokesperson, the joint teams swung into action and arrested eight suspects. Details of the those arrested according to the FPRO are, Adamu Mamman, 35, aka Master, gang leader, Ali Rabo ‘M’ aka Blacky, is the second in command, Umar Atijo ‘M’ 27, and the chief informant to the gang. Shehu Idris Shagari ‘M’ 27, third in command of the gang, Awwahu Ahmadu ‘M’ 27, aka Mota.

Others are Babangida Abdullahi, 31, Usman Abdulmumin, 27, Ahmad Abdulahi, 31, all of Rijana village, Kaduna State and receivers of stolen cattle, Phones and Laptops. CSP Jimoh said the sum of 17,000 Naira cash identified by one of the victims as part of the ransom money paid to the suspect, 3 GSM sets, 4 Sim Cards and 2 pairs of Army uniforms were recovered from them.

The Force spokesperson said all the suspects have made useful statements concerning the roles they played by each member of the gang in some of the reported kidnap cases along Kaduna/Abuja Highway recently.

He said they will be charged to court on completion of investigation and enjoins members of public to continue to give useful and timely information to Police.
