I disagree with the arewa youths , because the coup was planned by the young Nigerian military men that believed that the politicians then were extra corrupt just as it happened in 1983, so that was a military coup and not Igbo and because it was not planned by only one tribe, Gowon was the deputy head of state, however, Gowon and Danjuma have continued to brainwash the poor masses to believe that the coup was an Igbo coup, while the following list below shows the officers that were involved on both sides of the coup as well as their ethnic backgrounds.

Conspirators
Maj. Kaduna Nzeogwu ( Igbo )
Maj. Adewale Ademoyega (Yoruba), author of "WHY WE STRUCK"

That's what happens when bigotry rules.

Common sense and truth is thrown out of the window.

I learned on another forum that there was even an igbo leader who was killed by an igbo solider during the coup. Arthur Unegbe, who was igbo, was among the people killed by the coup plotters.

So much for the "igbo coup" without any igbo leaders killed. The internet was the best thing created as it exposed the truth about that shithole zoo. No wonder they removed history from their curriculum. I'm glad ipob is trying to put it back in school curriculum

Every lies that have been used to cause problems in Nigeria has always come from Southwest media houses. They deliberately labelled the Coup Igbo coup because only few Igbo leaders died in it but forgot that the coup was aimed at bringing Obafemi Awolowo to the helm of affairs.
Most of the Igbo officers in the coup are from Midwest region, which is a subset of western region. Instead of calling the Coup Nigeria army coup, they labelled it Igbo coup so as to bring disaffection among Nigerians and they succeeded. Subsequent coups were, thereafter, not named after the tribes of the coupist.

As much as the op is unenlightened about the coup, & its participants, the list above is mere rubbish, but in d same light, I will also like to say that the current Buhari APC led government is not a Hausa dominated government it also is a government of Ibo majority, Amaechi (ibo) chris ngige (ibo) etc

The Igbo guy who was stationed in Lagos to take out Aguiyi Ironsi got himself drunk and couldn't execute, according to Alexander Madiebo.

Thaat was a major setback.

It was IGBO to kill IGBO.

no hard truth here just poor damage control.

The 1966 coup was planned and executed by Igbo soilders others re just tools

Kaduna nzeogwu based in Kaduna killed ahamdu bello with his bullets.

Ifeajuna molested tafa balewa before finally pulling his trigger on him his corpse was dump by the road side along airport road Ikeja

Nwaobosi led the team to akintola residence , akintola was the only one that put up fight with coup plotters unfortunately he ran out of bullets nwaobosi was able to gain entrance to his house and he killed akintola

Karma will always play out ironically ifeajuna and nzeogwu were alleged to have committed treasonable offence they were also executed by ojukwu in Biafra republic.
