Thanks to everyone who downloaded my debut novel Bitter Perceptions. The story was inspired by an article I read years ago regarding drug-rape culture, but also contains various experiences I've encountered including unforgiveness, fair-weather friends, sex-crazy boyfriends, overbearing parents etc.

A literary blog brutally criticised my work when I published the first part of the first edition, and their scathing reviews left me devastated. I nearly deleted the manuscript and said goodbye to writing for good, but thanks to people who believed in me I rolled with it (Sorry BSB!) and got myself back up. I made a few changes to the book (Removed most of the cuss words and took out several scenes), but other than that, my work remains the same. This is my style, this is what I'll stick with, good or bad. The reviews I've received from readers since have been mostly positive, and I can't wait for what comes next. To all my fellow writers: Believe in yourself, you've got this!

To my readers: I've preserved most of the deleted scenes, and they can be found here https://thenaijabrit./2019/11/13/bitter-perceptions-deleted-scenes/?preview=true. You can also read the story behind the story https://tamiokorodedeh.com/2019/10/06/thirty-interesting-facts-about-bitter-perceptions/.

And to the blog that said my book was rubbish: What's up now, bitches? Kiss my boring ass!

Presently reading this and I must say it is quite captivating. I like how you were able to put stuff into the book that happened in the late 90's and y2k like music, fashion fad, communication etc.
It also captures clearly how a number of ladies ariu d that time were molested but did not have the courage to talk about it. And those who mustered up enough courage to do so were mostly called liars and tagged ladies of easy virtue

Well, this goes to show criticisms make us much better smiley

It's a great read. Still at the point where jide is toasting ekaette. Let me get back to my reading

Wow, thanks. In this #MeToo area where women like Timi Daloko's wife have revealed their truth, the story couldn't be more relevant. Keep reading - part 3 is going to be explosive. Thanks for your comment!

THINGS FORM AGAIN (A VILLAGE OF NO MAN) – Intriguing Synopsis

When the malevolent ambition of a man is met with the required ability in agility, obliteration is inevitable.

In this novel, all the men of a land once flowing with milk and honey, are completely wiped-out by a traditional military force, under the leadership of an ambitious man.

In solidarity to their men and male children, the women decide to remain on their land until they all pop their clogs. But the decision of the women does not last for long, the realization of their feebleness and the future lives of their children overwhelms it.

The fate of the continuity of this clan then rests on the shoulders of four humans, precisely, four pregnant women. The struggle begins, the atmosphere is edgy, the awaited hope seems far. The four pregnant women, as the hope to come, faces fear, care, affection and destitution.

One dies in her pregnant state and another gives birth to a stillborn son. One of the other two gives birth to a set of twins, both girls; and then, with just one pregnant woman remaining, things go wild.

The plan to kill the woman and her child springs up, but it all comes to a sudden resolution from there. A hasty light is no more needed, the wind of peace and normalcy blows heavily.

Twelve of the men of the village is discovered to be actually alive, and they returned just in time to save the grievous situation of the village. The apple really does not fall too far from the tree, certainly, all’s well that ends well.

In today's world, people fall victim to what they never imagined. Same goes for Pearl, Diane and, Somadina.

Pearl faced a whole lot of abuse. Soma made decisions he wouldn't ordinarily make and Diane had to go through life's worst experience.

Did they come out refined or got burnt in the process? You definitely have to read the book to find out.

The author uses these three unique characters and others, to tell the story of what some young individuals, and married people, go through in a society like ours.

If you enjoyed Love Hiccups by Kimberlywest, then you will love this as well.

A lot of writers do not understand that their book cover will go a long way to tell the intent reader what to expect.

I see lots of gabbage cover designs.

Thats too bad.

If you will publish a book.... please, give it an eye catching professional cover. Hire a professional.

Majority of the book covers up tgere are just complete nonsense and you slap your name on it.

You dont know where your book will take you to. Give your story a good appeal by giving it an appealing book cover.

i for one decided to give my book cover out to the so called professionals on Nairaland here to work on. None was close to giving me what I wanted. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I even cried.

I mean I'm going to pay, just give me something I can work with here but nay, within two minutes they were done putting my name on a cover that I can't.... And they expected me to pay.

I'ts like people don't understand creativity in this part of the world and it's sad. So I just created a cover page myself and it was better than every one the so called professionals proposed.

But going forward, for my other books, I would really appreciate a professional.

ADA by Chikadibia
PAINS

She was not sure exactly what they meant when they promised her a better life and the good things of the city. But Ada knew the situation she endured was not exactly what she nor her parents, anticipated when they let her go with Uncle Francis and his wife to the City.

She adapted quickly to her reality, washing heaps of clothes everyday. The despicable oddity of washing her Uncle’s Boxer Shorts and his wife’s blood stained underwears, seldom terrified her anymore.

The better life earlier promised her, turned out to be a pleasant pseudonym for ‘full time house help’.

Ada was the only daughter of her parents. She called her Uncle and his wife, ‘Daddy and Mummy’. Her Mother told her that her aunt and uncle, would be her new parents in the city. “They will feed you, clothe you, provide for you and care for you. They will love, guide and protect you just like your father and I. Don’t worry my daughter, they’re your parents now, Obey them in everything. And call your uncle, Daddy and your aunt, will be your Mummy. Ada Nna, Inugo?”

It felt like ages ago, when Mother tried so hard to hide her emotions behind long admonitions before she bade her goodbye.

Ada never believed anyone could treat her like her parents, much less become her ‘new parents’ as mother had put it. She had hoped to be proved wrong by uncle Francis and his wife. Then again, she took all the promise of ‘a home away from home’, with a pinch of salt. It helped her swallow the bitter pill of manual and debasing labor forced down her throat by her ‘new parents’. She looked forward to her secondary education in the city, but she knew well by then, that her uncle had no plans for that. Yet, the realisation that she won’t be seeing the four walls of a classroom soon or perhaps ever again, hurt her deeply whenever she had any free time to let her mind wander. She really hoped to “go to school and make her Mama proud.”

The searing pain around her waist and the pounding headache that had plagued her for almost a week, would not let her dwell on her sorrows, in peace. As she slowly hurled her tired frame to her room, ten year old Ada, secretly wished she could turn back the hands of time. She wished to be back in the village savoring a hot plate of roasted Yam and palm oil spiced with a mother’s love by the open fireside under the moon.

She wondered how fast time went by and changed only the good things. On the bright side, she mused, “I have a whole room to myself here.” “Good things of the city!” she shrugged, with the faintest hint of a smile on her face.

“Ada! Hope you’ve had your bath this evening!?”
From the sitting room uncle Francis’ coarse voice jolted her out of her reverie.
“Yes, Daddy!”

“Good. I don’t want you smelling around my house.”
His sudden interest in her hygiene was strange at first but it amused Ada.

Maybe because she stank like a pig, Uncle Francis didn’t want to unleash her on school children. That must be why she was locked up all day like a hedious foul smelling beast, washing and scrubbing away her odorous existence with each underwear, boxer short, dirty floor and plate she washed.

She had caught some scenes of the fairy tales on TV; Princess Rapunzel, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast. But she was no fool, there was no Prince Charming searching for her.

Still, wondering why or if she smelled so bad, bad enough, to force her uncle to take interest in her personal hygiene and concorting theories and stories based on her distortion of the fairytales she saw on TV was easily the most captivating escape from her reality that her young mind had conjured yet.

“Ooooh God!” she exclaimed.
She picked up her bed sheet. She had forgotten to wash it during the day. She did not relish the thought of using the sheet that night, not with the strange smear on it. It had dried in and left a visible, distinct and irregular shape on the sheet.
It looked like candle wax or Pap smear. She had woken up in the morning, feeling strange aches and sensations around her pelvis. As If that wasn’t strange enough, she noticed the semi viscous fluid, on the sheet. It had become a routine occurrence.

She could still recall vividly, the first time she noticed it about a week ago. It was fresh in her memory because it was the first time uncle Francis barged into her room nagging her to bathe before bed. She was not clothed. She was about to tie her favorite night wear; a wrapper.

It was then uncle Francis walked in without knocking. Ada chuckled, as she recalled the embarrassment she felt in that moment. Uncle Francis fixed his gaze upon her young frame. His eyes darted from north to south of her body.
