Life is hard everywhere including life in campus. Living in campus can be so frustrating if you have to depend on your parents to send some small cash which won’t last for a long time. Do you think that small cash that your parents sent to you will purchase all what you need including payment of handouts? The answer is a big NO. And if that’s what you are thinking, I will advise you to change that thought of yours or you choose to be frustrated in campus.
You want a way out? Well I have tried to my research and I have decided that the only way out is for you learning a skill. This skill is not only important when you are in the campus; it is even more useful to the outside world. We all know the structure of the labour market in Nigeria, so you have to know what you are doing in order to have a brighter future.
I will be listing the required skills you might want to learn, and trust me; these skills will add value to your life. It is not a must you learn everything but learn something, don’t procrastinate; it kills.
Below are the list of skills you can think of learning and reasons behind them;
1.GRAPHIC DESIGN: This skill is making a big hit in Nigeria especially in campuses. It is easier to learn, it is always about creativity. Some students might want you to help them create logo, by this way you can start making few cash from it. All you will need is you being creative and your laptop.
2.BEAD MAKING: Bead is now the trending fashion in Nigerian campuses. Beads are usually used in making different thing like necklace, handbag, purse and so on. Learn bead making and you will never regret it.
3.DESIGN: This skill involves you creating and designing websites. Almost every student wants to have a site and they tend to patronize web designers. The least amount of money a good web designer usually receives from their client is over #20k. You see how lucrative it is, huh?
4.PHONE REPAIRING: All students in campus are using one type of phone or the other.Phones are prone to develop fault, if you can seize that opportunity and advertise yourself, you won’t be depending on mum and dad anymore.
5.HAIR DRESSING/BARBING: Girls love to change their hairstyle every weekend, also guys will want to trim or carve their hair. You can use this opportunity to make some cool cash every weekend. How can you start? Simple! Assist anybody to fix his/her hair for free, then when people see how good you are, they will patronize you. This same thing happened in “JENIFA‘s DIARY”, am sure you can relate?
6.TYPING: Some students have to go to cybercafé to type either an assignment or a project. Since you have a laptop, you can offer to do it for them. I know you will be thinking how you will print it. You don’t really need to have a printer; you can type the assignment and save it in a flash. Take this flash to cybercafé and print out the assignment. You should know how to make your gain out of it.
7.MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS: There are many students in campus that might need someone to create a musical beats for them in return of money. Some churches also employ instrumentalists to play instrument every Sunday, which means you can make cool cash every Sunday.
All the skills I listed above does not in any way disturb your studies, so I hope you consider one of the skill I listed.
