omenkaLives: What you are saying comes from poverty of knowledge, your own very poverty of knowledge and I have no idea whether you are also financially poor, but look at that picture again. *Any dummy can become the richest man in Africa if the import waivers given to Dangote is given to him/her. *Again any dummy can become Africa's Richest Man if cheap FX worth several billions of dollars with marginal fluctuation differences worth several billions of Naira is approved for him by his angel investors in power. *And AGAIN, any Dummy can become the Richest Man in Africa in Africa if he decides to become surrogates of politicians and hedge their loot in his SPV for 20% net profit @ 2% fees. *One more time but not the last, ANY dummy can become Africa's Richest Man if you have the politicians in your pockets and have the capacity to influence bank lending rate to single digit percentile in a hostile business climate. *I wanna add one more thing, ANY Dummy can become Africa's Richest Man if politicians are banning other importers of similar products as a return on investment of sponsoring them into Power. And Common men, the list isn't finishing ? *Any Dummy can become Africa's Richest Man if his Trucks are allowed to Kill and go on the roads without liens, no repercussions and just above the laws. *Any dummy can become Africa's Richest Man if the roads that his competitor in haulage, interstate transportation of goods are left deplorable, so his competitors can not move their products into the main business hubs. The list go on: * I will not even like to mention the sharp practices of manipulating the trading rates when he headed SEC. And how he manipulates prices illegally to destroy his competition after all, he owns the politicians in his pocket. If Dangote was actually smarter than he is, he is supposed to be the Richest Man in the world. This is no brainer. They are gathered there for one reason and one reason alone. To show that they are united, and what unites them is FRAUD and the next step in the move to acquire more toxic wealth though it is legitimate in Nigeria is illegal in other climes. And in fact, if I tell you that if skirmishes or civil war breaks out today, there will be more soldiers deployed to man Dangote Assets than will be deployed to protect women and children at the epicenters of war. I am not wrong. I wish I had no conscience. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Billyonaire: On the contrary, regardless of any favors he might have received, it is extremely difficult to hold such a conglomerate together. Very few can manage resources like Dang has. It takes a whole lot more than some ancient import licenses. 1 Like 1 Share |

LastSurvivor11: I don't quite agree with you. Dangotes may not be without some fault, but I think we Nigerians are quick to lay blame for simple government incompetence at the hands of one individual of the other. For example we often say that dangotes made a deal with government to spoil the railway to make way for his trucks. The truth of the matter is that the railway was dead long before dangote expanded to the extent of needing trucks all over the country. Railway disappeared in the early/mid 80's. Dangote was not a household name then. He merely responded to Nigeria not having an efficient rail system and had to buy trucks to move his stuff around. The same way is when we say generator importers are the reason Nigeria doesn't have light. I was born in the 70's and was very aware from the early 80' and light used to go then too. Perhaps not as frequently and for as long spells as it does now, but light went and got worse year on year, but Mikano and Marapco were not household names till the late 90's. They came when Nigerian economy started to expand when banks were being liberalized and new banks like zenith, Gtb etc were opening branches everywhere and required power. So they were simply filling an existing void in the sector. Same for airlines. Private jets exist simply because Nigerian government incompetence and policy flip flops (and not forgetting poor management from the airlines themselves - in my view arik had no business self destructing) have made domestic air travel unreliable for the time conscious business man. If you read any book on entrepreneurs, it will tell you that the first thing to do is to identify a need of people that is not being met and fill that need. That's what dangote, marapco etc have done. Having said that one can argue that dangote is too cozy with all governments and gets waiver etc. That may be true, but why haven't the others done so. The truth is that most Nigerian rich people are lazy minded. We like easy business of just trading. Any idiot can buy bulk cement produced by someone's else and re bag and sell. Or import iron rods and come and sell. The real smarts and the real money comes from manufacturing, but Nigerians tend to runs from the risks inherent in that. They want the easy life of trading. Again Nigeria's refineries are not bad because dangote is building his own! Dangotes is building his own because Nigeria's refineries are bad. And the refineries being bad has nothing to do with dangote. Again he's willing to take a risk and it's going to pay off big time. Whereas people have been importing petrol before dangote but will never build refinery. Again as Nigerians we like trading, not making! 5 Likes 2 Shares |

gokuu: I believe that you do not know how large corporations are run so it seems difficult to you because you have not attended ANY Business School. I have and I can tell you that such business works on simpler principles than small businesses. There is no way you can become bankrupt without the banks going down and the Government/banks negotiating a bail-out. He basically controls the Economy and the Politicians and bankers are in his pocket. No thanks to corruption. I do not arbor hatred for this Dangote, and no jealousy. I am candidly telling you the play within his SPVs. 4 Likes |

2dugged: Dude while I agree that Nigeria is filled with corruption, nepotism, injustice etc, but the truth is that it is largely fueled by politicians who feed on the mass level of illiteracy in the land. Middle class educated people chasing a better future for themselves will not be used as suicide bombers, will not become political thugs for adedibu and will not be bowing down for kanu to touch their heads like a god. Instead of us to come together to take on the politicians we allow ourselves to be used by the politicians to take on each other for their gain. Like someone said, no member of ojukwus family died during the Civil War and after the war he lived in relative prosperity, but what about those who fought and died. Who took care of the families? The millions of intertribal marriages suggest we don't really have a problem with each other. It's the politicians that are the problem. 1 Like |

Venerable612:lol bro! There is a well drawn line between "well fed" and "being successful". Don't mind those politicians using the tactics of divide to rule us. If Atiku eventually succeeded in achieving his age long ambition of becoming the President of Nigeria, do you think he could grant the secession of any part of the country? Do you think he can grant the secession of Biafra, since he is calling for secession? 1 Like |

Billyonaire: Well said. Dangote et al represent Nigeria's equivalent of the robber barons of 19th century America. The only minute difference I'd that he is very conscious of his image. That he has risen to this height and can get away with murder is an indicator of the developmental stage of the state |

2dugged:I really don't give a shiit whether or not my comments initially endeared you to politics section. I'm actually noticing you for the first time and doubt I ever would have if you didn't mention me. Did you bother to check who started this whole nonsense of turning everything political to a tribal and religious contest? This section used to be the place to be until Jonathan lost the election. Even after the loss I still kept my cool despite all provocation. I wrote debatable articles and counter articles to some of the staunchest (reasonable) articles by pro PDP members. In spite of all that, some inconsolable losers were hell bent on taking this board to the gutters, and guess what, they succeeded. When was the last time you saw me write an article? You think it's because I've lost my flare for writing? Hell no! It is because it is USELESS! Nairaland can NEVER be what it used to be anymore. Deal with it and stop whining or just keep the fvck off. Thank you. 2 Likes |
