The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has called on the Federal Government to consider restructuring to give states and local governments greater powers and responsibilities.
He also charged it to dialogue with the leader of the Independent Peoples Republic of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and other groups as a step towards dousing tensions in the country.
The governor, who spoke on Sunday in Ado Ekiti, said the Federal Government should be fair to all sections of the country, especially, the “marginalized” Igbo people,
While condemning the quit notice issued to the Igbos by a northern youth group, the governor charged the federal government to take steps at addressing the varied agitations of the different sections of Nigeria.
“As much as secession is not an option, the handlers of our democracy must be equitable, fair and just to everyone,” he said.
“The Igbo have continued to suffer because of the perceived role of Emeka Ojukwu. If we say past governments didn’t do well what has the present government done differently?
“I agree that secession is not desirable but there must be justice and equity. When people are being killed or vilified, you must expect a reaction. No region should begin to use power to oppress another. If Nigeria is truly one, it will not get to a stage that one region will openly call on another to leave its land.
“The Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is doing his best but that is not enough. We must remember that those who make positive change impossible make violent change inevitable. A situation where a section will be suffering forever because of their role in the civil war is not fair.”

He said the revenue sharing formula should be reviewed “because it is not a true reflection of our collective interest. For the country to move forward the states should takeover economically.”
“The federal government must purge itself of some responsibilities because the actual development is at grassroots. The states and the local governments are nodal points of developments,” he said.
On the IPOB agitations, Mr. Fayose said, “The federal government should dialogue with the aggrieved and forge ahead. Using force will not help because some of those things they thought had died in the past are now rearing their ugly heads.
“It is no doubt that (Nnamdi) Kanu is representing the interest of the younger generation of Igbo. Instead of fighting him, they should release them and invite him for a dialogue.
“His struggle has become an ideological movement with massive followers irrespective of what some people are telling the federal government to curry a favour, which is momentarily. By the action of this government they have made Kanu more popular.
“Without mincing words, the present government has divided Nigeria more than ever. It is the legitimate right of the people to agitate if they feel they are wrongly treated. You can’t get peace where there is no justice.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us. It is the wish of some people that an Igbo man does not become the president but this is against the spirit and letters of our constitution

People saying Ijaw land is part of Biafra know nothing about history, Go and read about Isaac Boro who declared Niger Delta Republic in 1966 a full year before Biafra Republic was declared by Ojukwu in 1967.

That said, as a true son of Niger Delta, I can categoritically state that we are behind Buhari lead govt and we believe in Nigeria. Because we believe 2 wrongs don't make a right and with war there are no winners, we choose to channel our grievances the right way, and be patient with our leaders.

Arise O, compatriots Nigeria's call obey, let us unite in the face of challenges, let us fight peacefully for our motherland, let us show the world that the most populous black nation and the biggest economy in Africa can get it right.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Long live Buhari Led Govt.

The labour of our hero's past shall never be in vain.

Lol, the federal government will never invite any one that cannot be reasoned with. Kanu only demand is Biafra, which the Nigerian government will never give. He does not want restructuring and 100% resource control because if Nigeria is restructured, he will never be the one to lead, instead it's the same Igbo leaders and governors that will still lead igboland if restructuring is achieved. That guy is fighting for his own selfish interest, he believes he has sacrificed enough for the so- called Biafra struggle, so to him, deals like restructuring and 100% resources control, that wont make him the sole leader of igboland, he won't accept it. Fayose don't know that guy at all

“The federal government must purge itself of some responsibilities because the actual development is at grassroots. The states and the local governments are nodal points of developments,” he said.
What efforts has Fayose made to "purge" himself and the state government of "some responsibilities"?

"Actual development is at the grassroots", true. What efforts has Fayose made to ensure he gives more powers to the local government chairmen?

True federalism we all want, but I find people like Fayose mighty hypocritical because all what they've been asking from the federal government are things they can apply at the state level, at least by way of demonstrating their sincerity, but sadly and oddly, not a single one of those state governors has taken even the smallest of steps to promote true federalism in their respective states.

The governors simply want more powers that's all.

Propose that state government accounts be separated from the local government accounts and suggest allocations from the fed goes directly to the local governments and see the reaction of these so called true federalism advocates.

Yeye dey smell.

Lmaoooo! So this is Fayose's idea of restructuring? Maintain the current revenue allocation system but increase the share of states so that governors can have more money to loot. How will this address the problem of some States that lazy around waiting for monthly allocation without doing enough to generate revenue?

Genuine advocates of restructuring really have a lot of work to do. The entire concept is too nebulous and need serious streamlining to the basics. As it is today, restructuring mean different thing to different people and hence, the apprehension is some region about its motive. Let us clearly define exactly what this restructuring is before pushing it out as the only magic wand that can solve all the problems of Nigeria.

Religion is an opium of masses, do you know the meaning of Opium? Opium is like a drug that gives you temporary relief. That does not mean that they opium would last forever and the agony would not continue. Do you know some people drink Alcohol because they are sad? But can Alcohol give them permanent joy? No, Never, until the sadness is rid off. Such is Biafra case! GEJ Presidency was an opium, it was also like an alcohol. Even if an Igbo man becomes a president today, tomorrow, another generation would still come and clamour for Biafra. Kanu might not have had all the necessary requirements to start the agitation before, but two years ago, he sees a pure avenue to give a fight. Let Kanu die today, tomorrow, another Kanu will arise. Biafra is like a spirit, you can hide it temporarily, but you cannot kill it.

I am utterly and completely ashamed of this govt, how can a country be ruled from proxy for close to 100 days or more in 2017 alone? No achievement whatsoever, standard of living has reduced drastically below poor, cost of living is at the roof and the president is no where to be seen, rather sends a voice note to a populace of approx 200m?

Its really crazy how a set of people who are alledged to be normal and sane still support such nonsense?

-For una Nigeria to start working, Hausa-Fulani would have to immediately denounce Sharia & say: NO to Quota system & Jihad on Middle-belt.

-But make i ask oo, why don't every Nation go their separate ways and perhaps align with whichever one it deem fit or atleast EU formula?
