Nigerians Spend N300bn On Education In Ghana Annually by froz(m): 8:35am On Jun 27, 2017 |
A former Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has said that Nigerians spend N300bn annually in Ghana and an estimated N162bn annually in the United Kingdom on foreign tertiary education. Abdullahi, who is also a former Minister of Sports, spoke in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Friday on the sidelines of a summit of the Nigerian Union of Teachers. He said the British Council had reported that the number of Nigerian students studying abroad had increased by 75 per cent since 2002, with a current estimate of about 19,000. Abdullahi said, “In the middle of this crisis, government interventions over the years have been business as usual at best, and misguided at worst; indicating either a woeful lack of understanding of the problem or its sheer inability to apply the right measures of solution to bring about the desired turnaround.’’ The ex-minister stated that funding was about the most important issue in any conversation about education in Nigeria. He added that while government had argued over the years that it could not effectively fund education, the argument had become even more pertinent now that Nigeria is suffering from economic recession. Abdullahi said, “Available statistics show that between 2000 and 2012, an estimated N800bn might have gone to the states in UBEC intervention alone. That is an average of N22bn to each of the states and the Federal Capital Territory. “If we add other direct expenditure by the various state governments, this figure could go up to trillions of naira. Yet, evidence abound that the majority of our children completing basic education from our schools have not achieved the required standards in basic cognitive skills.” SOURCE: https://brandspurng.com/nigerians-spend-n300bn-on-education-in-ghana-annually/

It's not a lie. Unfortunately, Ghana's educational system is seemingly better than ours considering several factors that come into play. No strike, no Fulani herdsmen invading the compounds and ransacking classes. Probably, their lecturers don't even sort like ours do. 2 Likes 1 Share |

and so? Does Nigeria think universities in other countries are as stup!d as our public universities and their leaders? Admission should be the easiest thing to get. Education is not hard, our people should stop making it difficult... this is the reason the so called "dum.b" people end up with more wealth when all we know how to do is condemn and ruin their lives because of low grades (via our archaic teaching methodology). Gone are the days when some fellas spend 3,4 even 6 years waiting for one yeye admission from obsolete universities. These days when companies seek ONLY 20-22 year old folks with work experience, it will take a very dum.b mind to keep pursuing one admission from a highly populated obsolete institution. Deny one person the right to SCHOOL, and watch him take his hard earned money elsewhere. Education is real business, Nigeria is at loss when students are denied entry to study! I expect these figures to triple before end of 2018. 1 Like |

Neduzze5:ghana's education system is not better than nigerias. Those who couldn't get into nigerian schools due to jamb/post jamb and waec wahala always go to ghana or benin republic. They should scrap jamb and let schools chose their candidates. Plus, they nEed to build more schools instead of churches and mosques or wasting good money to send some people to mecca and jerusalem. 2 Likes |

The same wealthy and mighty are the ones who'll still complain about this ill development and should you check non of their kids school in any Nigerian public School. They have set out to crippled every single sector of our economy the very first day they made foreign countries where they invest those stolen wealths in. When they hav headache they fly to India while Nigerian hospitals are lacking essential consumerables shame on all governments that came to being aft Babangida to date. 2 Likes |

Even before we break this country, it's breaking itself - Nothing seems to work. With the billions of naira budgeted every year for Education, nothing to show for it. Corruption is gradually killing Nigeria, yet no one is guilty of corruption. 1 Like
