5 Powerful Reasons Why You Should Invest In Owerri Property Market by BiafraIShere(m): 12:03pm On Jun 29, 2017
tongue(1) Returns On Investment; Owerri has some of the highest returns on property in Nigeria. After the prime cities of Lagos, Abuja and P.Harcourt, Owerri comes next. Duplexes, flats and self contained apartments are in high demand all over the city and the suburbs. While politicians, top level civil servants, rich business men, oil workers and even Igbo's abroad are always seeking to either buy, build or rent duplexes and flats in areas like New Owerri, W.bank, Works layout etc, students on their own are always seeking for self-contained rooms in the suburbs like Nekede, Orji, Ihiagwa, Akwakuma etc.

(2) Security; Owerri is a very peaceful, beautiful and serene city with a large proportion of it's citizens being educated and enlightened. The locals are very accommodating and like enjoyment. Also, issues like omo onile, land speculators and land frauds are very rare and not as common like in Lagos or P.Harcourt, one can hardly be defrauded in Owerri provided that he/she follows the right source.

(3) Infrastructural & Social amenities development; this may come as a surprise to some people but the fact on ground is that Owerri has some of the best infrastructure that can be found in Nigeria today. Rochas might have incurred the wrath of Igbos but one thing you can't take away from him is his strides in giving Owerri a facelift. There are now tunnels, wide roads, flyovers, conference centres, Disney lands, hotels and clubs, night life etc. Anybody who has not been to Owerri in the last five years will certainly be shocked at how much the city has changed. Many city roads like bank road, Orlu road, Egbu road etc have been widened and a lot of buildings demolished in order to maintain the Owerri master plan.

(4) Political Crises/Nigeria's Uncertain Future; At the moment no one could really predict with any degree of certainty on what is going to happen in the months or years ahead. That Nigeria is sitting on a keg of gunpowder may even be an understatement, and to make matters worse for the beleaguered country, an unprecedented economic meltdown, ethno religious crises, secession agitation, militancy, boko haram etc are all threatening to tear the country into pieces. Recently the northern youths gave Igbos a 3 months ultimatum to leave the north, they were equally supported by some of their elders. This has shown to Igbos (who are unarguably the largest local investors in Nigeria) that nowhere outside their region is really safe to invest, today is north and there is no guarantee that others will not want to try such in places like Lagos where the indigines have sold up their lands and are now living as tenants, so the Igbos have been giving a rude reawakening that Nigeria is not a country in the real sense but a mere geographic expression.

(5) Rural-Urban Migration & Population Explosion; It is no longer news that our rural areas are being deserted in favour of the urban centres. This has put a lot of pressure to land and housing in the urban centres, and Owerri is one of the cities facing this crises, this is even made worse by the large number of Igbos that has been returning from the north since book haram started their bombings/killings, now with the ultimatum given to Igbos in the north (whether its empty threat or not) and the fact that those who made such treasonable statement were not brought to book has shown that Nigeria is fundamentally flawed as a country, and the import of this will not be lost on the Igbos, so cities like Owerri and others in Igbo land will withness increased demand for housing.
