Our politicians need to lock up in psycharic home

Osinbanjo, show me your tax documents!
I paid my taxes when i get home to light,
I paid my tax when i drive on roads littered with ditches and 'stagnant' yellow pool,
I paid my tax when my parents are owed salary, pension for months,
I paid my tax when i get home to a house with no running water...
Osinbanjo, have you paid yours?

Do you have facts to back your claims or you just assumed?

He is saying the truth. Do your research. undecided If you eat in a hotel, you pay not just VAT but an additional sales tax. If you buy anything from a supermarket, restaurant or pharmacy, you pay VAT. If you buy an airline ticket, there is a percentage of tax incorporated into the price of the ticket, that the passenger pays. If you park at any public car parking lot, there is a proportion of the parking fees remitted as tax. If you own a stall in the market, the local govt officials come in on different days of the week to collect taxes and fees from things ranging from signboards to sanitation. If you pass a toll gate, part of the toll fees you pay are remitted as taxes to the govt. The list is endless. There are so many indirect taxes, that people pay in this country. Talk to a tax professional to educate you further... sad

SaulRazor:

Do we need facts to know that every single Item in Nigeria has VAT on it...It seems you live abroad from your tone because anybody that stays in Nigeria know about double taxation on goods by local govt , state and FG

Thank you, o jare. May you live long.

That is were you lack understanding on tax matters. There are items exempted from Value Added Tax. These items include the following
Goods Exempted

All medical and pharmaceutical products, Basic food items, Books and educational materials, Baby products, Fertilizer, locally produced agricultural and veterinary medicine, farming machinery, and farming transportation equipment

All exports Plant and machinery imported for use in the Export Processing Zone

Plant, machinery and equipment purchased for utilisation of gas in downstream

petroleum operations. Tractors, ploughs, and agricultural equipment and implements purchased for agricultural purposes

Services Exempted

Medical services, Services rendered by community banks, People’s Bank and mortgage institutions, Plays and performances conducted by educational institutions as part of learning. All export services. Note also: Exports are zero rated. Everybody doesn't know anything about double taxation as many taxpayers are ignorant about the tax laws.
The following are taxes collected by federal, state and local government in Nigeria
Taxes Collected by the Federal Government

Company income tax.
Withholding tax on companies, residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and non-resident individuals.
Petroleum profits tax.
Education Tax.
Value Added Tax.
Capital gains tax on residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, corporate and non-resident individuals.
Stamp duties on bodies corporate and residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Personal income tax in respect of
(a) Members of the armed forces.

(b) Members of the Nigeria Police Force.

(c) Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja; and

(d) Staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and non-resident individuals

Taxes and levies collected by the State Government.

Personal income tax in respect of:
(a) Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE);

(b) Direct taxation (Self-assessment)

Withholding tax for Individuals
Capital gains tax for individuals
Stamp duties on instruments executed by individuals.
Pools betting, lotteries, gaming and casino taxes.
Road tax.
Business premises registration
Development levy for individuals
Naming of street registration fees in State Capitals.
Right of Occupancy fees on lands owned by the State Government.
Market taxes and levies where State finance is involved.

Taxes and Levies to be collected by Local Government

Shops and, kiosks rates
Tenement rates
On and off liquor license fees
Slaughter slab fees.
Marriage, birth and death registration fees.
Naming of street registration fee, excluding any street in the State Capital
Right of Occupancy fee on lands in rural areas, excluding those collectable by the Federal and State Governments.
Market taxes and levies excluding any market where State Finance is involved.
Motor Park levies.
Domestic animal license fees.
Bicycle, truck, canoe, wheelbarrow and cart fees, other than a mechanically propelled truck.
Cattle tax payable by cattle farmers only.
Merriment and road closure levy.
Radio and television license fees (other than radio and television transmitter).
Vehicle radio license fee (to be imposed by the local government of the State in which the car is registered.
Wrong parking charges.
Public convenience, sewage and refuse disposal fees.
Customary burial ground permit fees.
Religious places establishment permit fees.
Signboard and advertisement permit fees

Although there have been modifications.

The items exempted from VAT are much much fewer than the ones that are subjected to VAT. What has govt done with all the taxes they collected on the goods and services that have been taxed, so far? Witholding tax on services is 10% of the cost of such services, so every time you recharge your phone on Glo, Etisalat, Airtel, MTN or Ntel, a percentage of that money flows into the govt purse as tax. What has govt done so far with that money? Ordinary pensions and salaries still remain unpaid at many levels. Do you know how much money state govts make from land use charges annually? Do the maths. If you are a landlord, you cannot avoid paying it, except if you want your premises to be sealed up.

Please go and do your research when it comes to Plant, machinery and equipment purchased for utilisation of gas in downstream petroleum operations. At the point of clearing such equipment at the ports, duties, taxes etc are levied in full on all these items. So please do NOT propagate this false premise that such equipment are exempt from tax, when they are not. In fact, equipment used for domestic LPG is fully taxed at source. Even the Gas itself is also taxed at source. sad
