Yoruba Leaders Make Fresh Call For Restructuring by paparazy06(m): 2:07am On Jun 30, 2017 |
The Yoruba leaders, under the auspices of
Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative, said
this yesterday at a unity retreat held in
Ibadan.
The leaders, who set aside their political
differences to attend the all-important
meeting, advised the tiers of government,
especially the executive and legislature, to put
machinery in place to ensure that
recommendations of the confab are
implemented before the next general election.
The retreat was convened by Otunba Deji
Osibogun.
Present at the meeting were Chief Niyi
Akintola (SAN); former Deputy National
Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP), Chief Bode George; Chairman, Afenifere
Renewal Group (ARG), Mr. Olawale Oshin,
former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga
Daniel; Senator Bode Olajumoke who
represented Ondo State between 2007 and
2011.
Others included Chief Tokunbo Ajasin, and
Secretary General, Yoruba Council of Elders
(YCE) Dr Kunle Olajide.
Also in attendance were retired Archbishop of
Methodist Church Nigeria, Archbishop Ayo
Ladigbolu, Owa ‘Tapa of Itapa Ijesa, Dr.
Olapade Agoro, Proprietor, Lead City
University, Ibadan, Prof Jide Owoeye and
National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples
Democratic(OPC), Otunba Gani Adams.
Chief Bode George who called on all leaders in
the zone to avoid mistakes of the past but
strengthen the unity of Yoruba race.
He also noted that the template used by the
former Premier of the defunct Western Region,
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who showed exemplary
leadership should be adopted.
In his own comments, Otunba Daniel who aligned
with other speakers on restructuring of the
country said the 2014 confab report should
guarded jealously and implemented.
Otunba Deji Osibogun, who convened the
retreat made reference to National Political
Reform Conference in 2005 convened by former
President Olusegun Obasanjo noting”the
initiative did not douse the agitation,
prompting the administration of President
Goodluck Jonathan to convene another national
conference in 2014. The 2014 dialogue was
acknowledged to have made very far reaching
decisions on the required constitutional
reforms to effect the desired restructuring”. www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/yoruba-leaders-make-fresh-call-restructuring/ |

We can continue to bury our heads in the sand or do what is right. From now until another 1000 years, if we don't change from the kind of government we have now, we will remain where we are. I already know that some miscreants will read this Post, single out some names they don't like, and immediately forget the message to focus on the names. That is how short-minded we generally are in this part of the world. But who suffers all this? Certainly not these opportunistic Leaders who converged to make this important speeches, but you who complain about the cost of MTN data daily. 3 Likes |

As much as I have always resisted and detested the politics of bitterness being played amidst the Yorubas I must doff my hat for these ones on this belated move at such a time a like this. A template that will pacify every aggressors in this contraption called Nigeria must be brazenly addressed. Restructuring that these unfortunate "Northerners" have been resisting for years will continue to haunt them till Nigeria is laid to rest. Imagine a so called Country concentrating her means of defence in the Northern part of the Country is that not bewitchment?. We cannot go on like this, thank God for an Nnsmdi Kanu that decided to dare any maga in the face to champion a cause. Thank God for Governor Ayodele Fayose who will always look into the eyes of any maga up North (even their demigods) and tell them the bitter truth not minding whatever they felt about him. Thank God for our own Femi Fani Kayode who will not just keep quiet in the face of gross injustice from the rulers to the ruled. He revealed and still revealing the dark pages of our history to those who can afford to spare their time to read and be delivered. It is very clear that with the way things are going, Nigeria is about to be polarised either through referendum, restructuring or unending crises should the North try to be funny. This moment is tense and it is better for Mr Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo to seek for divine wisdom from God on how to go and should stop his emotion-laden speeches of " Nigeria Must Be United" or snapping pictures with Buhari's son. He was elected for a purpose at such a time like this. May God teach us all how to make our coexistence tread the path of peace and honour as we are about to chart a new course far from the status quo. I have spoken! 2 Likes 1 Share |
