Nigeria Will Overpower Those Calling For Separation – US by olajay86(m): 7:41am On Jun 30, 2017 |
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/06/nigeria-will-overpower-those-calling.html The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, has stated that Nigerians are capable of overcoming those agitating for secession. Symington made this comment in a speech at an event held in commemoration of the 241st anniversary of American independence in Abuja on Thursday. According to him, the first American President, George Washington, had warned that those who seek to weaken a country would always seek to start by causing disunity. Symington said just like America, Nigeria would remain a united country because of its determined people and leaders. He said, “Every time we have been challenged, we overcame danger because we had visionary leaders committed to union and citizens committed to ensuring justice for all. “Today, Nigeria is fortunate to have such leaders and citizens. Together, they are dedicated to keeping Nigeria united and just and to ensuring every Nigerian is heard and taken into account and treated fairly. “Together, those Nigerians will overpower any call to divide this nation. “Thanks to them, thanks to you, the lamp of unity and justice burns brightly both in our nations tonight. And the sight of a united Nigeria’s light lifts Africa and with it, the world.” The US envoy said Nigeria’s diversity is an inspiration to many countries. He said that, just like the US, Nigeria’s plurality was a source of strength. Symington added, “Wherever I meet a Nigerian, I ask ‘What do you like the most about your country?’ I like our diversity, our resilience, our energy, our warmth, our spirit, our food.’ “Just like the United States, Nigeria is a wonderfully diverse nation whose differences and diversity are sources of strength and reason for pride.”

apholaryn:Weep for yourself bro. This matter concerns everyone with the genuine interest of Nigeria at hand. It's the political imbalance, defective structural equation & gross marginalization of other ethnic/geographical divide by the over-dominating Hausa-Fulanis that is fuelling the nationwide agitations.Do you want to continue with the political servitude in this country? Free yourself from mental slavery. 3 Likes |

It is so so sad that nigerians who call themselves literates are still very much backward politically despite all the issues nigeria has passed through. Any dumb fool that follows all these politicians calling for restructuring qnd die in the process will only have him or herself to blame when he or she sees those same politicians laughing happily and taking up political posts in 2019 in nigeria. Never let nigeria politiciana use you to acheive their aims and objevtives. |

Is that so? I don't think the secession can succeed but restructuring is imperative, that's why on one hand I'm supporting the call for biafra, it will put pressure on the current useless system of government we're running. |

He's an ambassador to Nigeria.NEVER you expect him to say the opposite. Even kids know that disintegration is inevitable, so he had to be diplomatic in his speech delivery. |

Commonwealth Minister George Thomas wrote in August 1967 that: 'The sole immediate British interest in Nigeria is that the Nigerian economy should be brought back to a condition in which our substantial trade and investment in the country can be further developed, and particularly so we can regain access to important oil installations'. 1 Like |

Thomas further outlined the primary reason why Britain was so keen to preserve Nigerian unity, noting that 'our only direct interest in the maintenance of the federation is that Nigeria has been developed as an economic unit and any disruption of this would have adverse effects on trade and development'. If Nigeria were to break up, he added: 'We cannot expect that economic cooperation between the component parts of what was Nigeria, particularly between the East and the West, will necessarily enable development and trade to proceed at the same level as they would have done in a unified Nigeria; nor can we now count on the Shell/BP oil concession being regained on the same terms as in the past if the East and the mid-West assume full control of their own economies'. 1 Like |
