This dramatic footage shows the moment a plane crashes in the middle of a busy motorway before immediately bursting into a deadly fireball.

The small aircraft, which was carrying two passengers, crashed near John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, this morning and sent smoke billowing over the motorway.

Two people, a man and a woman, in their early sixties were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being pulled from the wreckage this morning.

Another astonishing clip shows a man who was on board the plane being pulled from the wreckage.

Blood is splattered across his face and clothes but he appears to be talking to his rescuers, explaining that there were two people in the plane at the time of the crash.
