A couple days ago, a video was posted on nairaland about moving sand in iraq. But what actually caused it?

The video footage shows a river of sand flowing across the desert.

This ‘sand river’ was due to an exceptional weather phenomenon.

Rare changes in the weather led to a rain and hail storm in Iraq. This resulted in a ‘river bed’ which contains a frozen water to flow across the desert.

The incredible spectacle, which looks like moving sand, is actually comprised of several blocks of ice moving at rapid pace through the desert.
