The Story Of Chukwudi And Biola by corpa247: 11:34am On Jul 04, 2017
Chukwudi is a graduate of Godfrey Okoye university who is awaiting his compulsory service year. Chukwudi is positive that he will be posted to the oil rich Akwa Ibom State but guess what? He is posted to Adamawa State! Chukwudi has lived virtually all his life in Enugu, the farthest he has gone north is Lokoja.
Nevertheless Chukwudi prepares for camp. He faces a number of challenges. First, he needs to buy extra camp kits like white shirts, white shorts, sneakers and other necessities since the ones given in camp are usually inadequate. There is no platform where he can easily shop all
these.
He faces yet another challenge, how does he get to Adamawa state from Enugu state? There is no one-way-bus to convey him straight to camp! The one he finally sees is pretty expensive. Chukwudi gets to camp battered and tired, his legs visibly shaking and his hunger level is off limit. He goes through all the necessary registrations and collects his OVERSIZE NYSC outfits. His jungle boot is super small and his khaki looks like something Fela must have used...
Three weeks later, Chukwudi is through with camp, he faces yet another challenge, he needs an accommodation to stay but there are no readily available, comfortable and affordable accommodations around his place of primary assignment. Chukwudi finally finds a single room which he pays N36,000 for the first year. The allowance of N19,800 he got on the last day of camp could not even foot the bills for the accommodation. How would he buy other necessities like bed, cooking stove and a fan to cool off the scorching heat of the north? He needs to make extra income but there are no opportunities open for him. To make matters worse, his PPA rejects him!!
Chukwudi is lost in his lamentations, how he wishes there was a platform he could get a new place of primary assignment, get
more information and interact with past and present corps members that served in Adamawa state.
One Friday morning, Chukwudi meets Biola; she has just passed out of the scheme the batch before his. Biola is still in town because she has properties she won't need anymore but there is no one to buy from her. She cannot easily access people like chukwudi who need these cheap properties to buy. Chukwudi ends up buying her properties at a reduced price.
The day Chukwudi met Biola at the secretariat; he had a difficult time locating the office. The only thing he now understood in hausa was “inakwana” and “sanu”, how would he tell this bike man he was going to secretariat? How he wished he had an NYSC tailored map to navigate through this new town?

EPISODE 2
Biola gets back home. She is positive that the C.V she sent to her uncle will yield result now. She can't wait to start earning in six figures and join the 'pepper dem gang'. Six months has passed and the six figures are not forthcoming, what does the future hold for her?

Chukwudi and Biola are two out of the over 200,000 corps members enrolled into the NYSC scheme yearly. According to Mrs. Rabi Jimeta, the former permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the annual enrollement figure of corps members had increased from 2,364 at inception in 1973 to 229,016 in 2014 with a projected increase to 300,000 in 2020.
