Other companies that allow you to connect to their equipment via bluetooth have open APIs so third party programmers can build programs to interact via bluetooth.

In simple english, you cannot connect to a Victron device outside of a victron app because they haven't enabled it. They also don't allow you to use bluetooth to connect on windows so you're limited to ios/Android apps unless you use a cable.

errrrm, no straight forward answer to this...depends on the inverter. a decent inverter shudnt have any issues doing this, but a not so good inverter will cook your battery..more so if its lead acid battery.....
an inverter shud go to float after bulk...but some inverters hv been observed to arbitralily switch back to bulk after being in float for a few minutes...without any external load/cause................repeated cycles of this faulty behaviour will ruin most leadacid battery banks
. thats why trickle chargers were designed, for scenarios just like this..

There are so many ways and tools to connect to Victron devices to read and write data

Is it that you are unable or unwilling to purchase a VeBus to USB cable? If your Pi is indeed used headless you can easily relocate it close enough to where the BMV is or move the BMV itself since the RJ11 data cable is usually so long. Simply connect the VeBus end of the cable to your BMV or MPPT and the USB end to the Raspberry Pi and you will be along in no time.

Even if the bluetooth protocol and workings were exposed bluetooth is generally a bit of a pain to work with programmatically and can be very unstable.

Moving isn't really an option, I have a zigbee hub connected to the Pi so where I place it is key.

For multiplus there are only two ways I have found: A by cable(specifically MK3, VE direct wont work) or B by bluetooth VE bus smart dongle, both are pricey devices forcing me to ask myself how often I will need to use them (plus the bluetooth dongle cant configure all the settings).

Like you suggested, I can use the BMV to monitor my energy consumption both ways so I only need a MK3 cable if I need to configure the multiplus and frankly I don't have the expertise for all of that configuring

I've decided I will DIY serial-to-wifi connections and use this with the BMV and CC when I have a break at the end of this month.

Thanks for helping me think through this, I really appreciate the help.

if I knew all this before would definitely not have gone for a multiplus sha, maybe a Deye or Growatt.

There's a distance limitation, I can't have the PI situated close to the BMV.

Biggest energy waster is room insulation. Make sure the AC does not have means to escape. Most people have opening through the window, under the door that allows the AC air to escape. This inturn ramps up more energy from the AC. It will use more energy to cool the room. Guys check out gaps and escape routes in your room so that your AC can use less energy.

I tend to agree with this position to a large degree.

I had the LG inverter ACs (GenCool) I believe which I ultimately phased out all 3 units in favor of Panasonic 1hp non inverter ACs.

It is correct that the inverter ACs progressively use less power after several hours run, I used to wake up to like 300w-400w consumption from a 1hp inverter AC however like Oga Adrusa said, the laws of physics have not changed - the AC is achieving good power savings at the expense of cooling - an AC compressor running at 400w is definitely doing less cooling work than a similar compressor at 800w.

Simply the inverter ACs do not cool as well as the normal ACs.

As for setting target at 25°C - this a good practice, your AC would never bring the ambient down from 32°C to to 18°C in the tropics without special measures. An AC can achieve 26°C temps in a room and thereafter work less cycles and use less power.
