jikaseo: Tell us the power ratings of the gadgets you power. Whosoever advised you to power up a 5kva inverter with two 220ah battery needs flogging. You can only power about 300watts (total wattage of the appliances) with those batteries as your inverter will use up about 80watts doing nothing. My advice is you dispose those batteries and buy new ones atleast 4 batteries then double your panels. Ideally, you don't need more than a 1.7kva inverter. Plus don't you power bulbs, you need to factor in those things. In renewable energy, you energy supply is limited. Even common phone charger draws about 20watts. Get a proper energy audit done for proper advice. Those appliances you listed up there may consume about 400w in total and it's alot of power to be drawn from 2 tubular batteries. You will have just about 4 to 5 hours back up after sun down 6 Likes |

Yes, but u need to be sure that the panels are arranged facing the proper direction n more so get the total cumulation of ur load to ascertain that the DC energy generated is sufficient for use during sunny hours n at night jikaseo: 1 Like |

Load is over 600watts. How about if I get a 2000watts sachet inverter with the two extra panels? I'm looking at optimizing the output with not much cost.. dacool1: |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by dacool1(m): 7:42am On Jan 05 |
jikaseo: Well, that might help improve your performance. Your freezer and other appliances should only be used during the day, you will have to reduce your "sun-down" loads to a max of 200w. If you are lucky not to have damaged your batteries your inverter should go off around 1 - 2am. In order to continuously power the load of over 600watts after sunlight till the next sun light you need a minimum of 10 220ah batteries. If you buy less than that be ready to replace your batteries in about 12 to 18 months. So my advice, power the heavy loads during the day and manage your load once it's sundown. Your current battery back up can only support a about 100w after sundown till the next sunlight. 2 Likes |

Something happened about an hour ago where I went to buy felicity inverter at Garki modern market, Abuja for those that are familiar with the place. A man came to buy felicity lead acid battery 12v 200ah. He needed 2pcs for 24v system. He came with a battery tester exactly like the one shown below. The shop attendant brought two new batteries but after the test, one showed "good battery" while the second one showed "replace battery". The customer rejected the second battery and demanded a replacement which caused an exchange of words btw the shop and the customer as the shop owner refused replacing the second battery. My question is has anyone here ever used this battery tester and how reliable is it 1 Like

Good evening, house. So, for almost a year, I have been off the grid. But recently, I decided to connect back to the grid. My installer made a connection between the power from the grid and my inverter. So, if they take the light, it automatically switches to the battery power. Now, my dilemma is that I share a prepaid meter with four other (4) tenants. Would this connection not increase the electricity bill? PS: My panel is enough to charge my battery, except for this period, I don't get enough sunlight due to their orientation on the roof. I will switch back to off-grid in the coming month. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Valentinooo: 8:38pm On Jan 05 |
Olarewajub: It will increase it. That thing dey gulp prepaid like mad. Once in a while I use PHCN to charge my battery too and I notice a significant drop in my remaining unit. It also depends on your battery capacity sha. 4 Likes |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Olarewajub: 8:53pm On Jan 05 |
Valentinooo: Thanks for the response. I will stick with manually using the changeover to switch between the inverter and PHCN. That way, my battery won't get charged with PHCN. |
