kiekie1: a comprehensive analysis, thanks!. seems refrigrators are built to be more energy efficient than freezers. no inverter freezer, only refrigrators will make out time to physically go to the stores and compare energy labels, will choose btw Samsung/haier/LG |

Reprobate: Hello, mine has freezer room top, fridge cabin below .. If you are not going for solar DC freezers which are kinda expensive , go for inverter compressors .. I went for Samsung cos I have internal company source (marketing & engineering units) . Cheers ! |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Reprobate: 9:39am On May 10, 2017 |
kiekie1: I ALREADY HAVE A NORMAL 2 DOOR FRIDGE [haier thermoccol 350L 2 door fridge 135w compressor], the freezer compartment is small, thus my need for a standalone freezer. in all my searches haven't seen a freezer with inverter compressor!, I wonder why. yep, solar freezers are 350k and above. not interested 1 Like |

@Reprobate. You may check out the felicity solar freezer & Fridge specifications as attached if it meets your need. Think they are in Festac, Lagos. Though i have never used it before sha. 0.45KwH/day = 0.45 x 1000 / 24hrs = 18.75 W 0.54KwH/day = 0.54 x 1000 / 24hrs = 22.5 W 0.60KwH/day = 0.60 x 1000 / 24hrs = 24 W gurus, hope my calculation above is correct?

babaegun: thanks for the info, though nothing spectacular about their comsumption, when you factor in the complexities and cost of a solar fridge. comparing them size by size, below is the Haier thermoccol 166 L freezer, its 350kwh/yr, roughly 1kwh/day. when compared against the felicity freezer, and I learnt the felicity freezer is as from 300k for the ultra small ones - panels not inclusive http://www.coolworld.com.ng/home-appliances/freezers/htf-166s |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by babaegun(m): 11:41am On May 10, 2017 |
@Reprobate. That's cool then. For the felicity solar, their 200L freezer is N185k from their price list. Cheers man. |

AkoEja:practically u are to subtract 45 or 65watt worst case from each Solar Panel so as to get the true power under 32•c this is always the case for all Solar panel. 1 Like 1 Share |

Team, Please, without considering the cost, which MPPT Charge controller is the best in the market among; Midnite classic solar 150 / 200, Outback FM60 /80, Tristar MPPT 60A, Schneider Xantrex 150V / 600V, Magnum, e.t.c in terms of best solar harvest, durability, flexibility, extend-ability remote accessibility and e.t.c Which maker or model is the best. Thanks 2 Likes |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by Saipro(m): 7:07am On May 11, 2017 |
bodeface: No such thing as a best, as your requirements and application would determine utility. For the commercial versions: - Xantrex followed up from Trace and is pretty good. Perhaps the cheapest of the lot. - MorningStar MPPT is touted as having the best DC-DC converters (their SureSine inverter is literally unbeatable in efficiency, sorry for digressing) - Magnum is touted as having the highest amps output. New firmware upgrades keep improving performance. Lots of input from Outback and Midnite (as developers). - Outback is largely the brainchild of the guys who developed Xantrex. Lots of improvements and tons of new features. - Midnite. The self-acclaimed industry standard. Has a few features not seen in others. Guys who developed the Outback went on to start Midnite. Pretty pricy too. - Then there's SMA, odd one out of the top players but pretty nifty too. Prefers to work alone. Or be boss when working with others. That's the evolution. Also, pricing tends to follow the ordering in the list. Where MorningStar excels at DC-DC conversion, Outback and Midnite excel at tracking the maximum power point. You decide which is more important to you (I prefer tracking here because of the rapidly changing insolation levels from cloud cover interference). PS: You are most unlikely to fully utilise the potential of either Outback (FM series) or Midnite (Classic series) charge controllers. What are you really looking for (asides reputation and stability)? 3 Likes |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by bodeface: 8:51am On May 11, 2017 |
babaegun: @Babaegun, Thanks for the comparison sheet, at face value looks like the midnite classic stands out, which agrees with what SAIPRO says, I will prefer the unit with the best tracking for the maximum power point. Thanks for the enlightenment @Babaegun @Saipro 1 Like |

@ Experts in the house I want to interconnect six Amaron sleek 12V 150AH batteries in 3 strings of 2 batteries each to a 24V 3.5KVA inverter. Please which size of cables do I need (to minimize losses) and where can I get them (cables + connectors)? Any recommendations? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mank1234(m): 5:55pm On May 11, 2017 |
Seems each manufacturer, believes its own is the best. Morningstar claims it has the fastest MPPT sweeping algorithm in the industry, thus better Watt output over a period of time under same test condition. Is this comparison from a neutral source or Midnitesolar? babaegun: 1 Like |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by lucky4u1(m): 6:33pm On May 11, 2017 |
Saipro:such explanation is complex. I usually use Solar meter to know the precise power at 32•c because that's a common Solar intensity in Nigeria and shouldn't be taken for granted when preparing a quote for solar power systems. |
